Some miles east of town a band of sheep had scattered over and along the track, and as the train came along ,t crashed into them, throwing them right oud left. Quite a number were killed, but one slieep was caught on the pilot aud not in the least Injured. It was carried into the city and removed uninjured. Henry Seward of Salmon Falls, Snake river Idaho, on Wednesday last, where he has been placer mining, brought with him a tooth and part of of a rib supposed to be the remains of a mammoth' which he found on the gravel deposit. P. O. GROCEKY. Saved From the Mad House. A dispatch to The Journal from Detroit, Oregon, Thursday probably saved Mr. Harper, a homesteader in tbe Kantlam country from a term in the madhouse. Parties up there who wanted him got out of the way to jump his claim, as he contends, charged him with insanity, but even after be was arrested, the telegraph got iu its work and saved him from this horrible commitment for insanity. It is very easy to get a person ad judged insane iu Oregon and it is very granting to see such attempts thwarted.
