The new reichstag assembled and Chancellor von Caprivi, in a long address said tbe new army bill represented the minimum the gov ernment would accept in either men or money. It Is one of tho sad dest scenes ever witnessed, and even tho strongest are compelled to turn away from some sights at the city hall, the hospital where tbe worst of 103 in Jured are. Governor Boies Is still on tbe ground doing all iu his power for the comfort of tho wounded. Physi cians and nurses are needed badly. Of tho injured 12 to 20 more will die. Near Fonda Mrs. E. 8. Oenden and and two chllden were killed. Near Newell, John Detwilor s killed and his wife fatally hurt. Iu Wright county eight miles west of Belmont, JohnLouuen aud his brother were killed. The total number of deaths from the storm so far as heard from, are G3. Tbe work of burying the dead at Pomeroy has commenced. Seventeen were interred late yesterday, and 20 more will be buried today. A number of bodies have been shipped away. The scenes aro most heartrending as relatives from a distance come to gaze upon the features of their dead. Two hundred and eight residences were swept completely from tho face of the earth, not a board being left. Dead carcasses of horses, cattle, and hogs are being taken from the ruins today and buried. It seems that as many fatalities re sulted from going into cellars as from staying above ground. The seven churches of the town are all demolished. No services will be held tomorrow. All is sadness and gloom. Tbe total damage done the state by the cyclone is estimatod at eight hundred thousand dollars. Belief Train. Sioux City, la., July 8. The work of organization for relief of tornado sufferers at Pomeroy Is being pushed in cities of Northwest Iowa. Carload of supplies sent from here this mornlDg with half a dozen surgeons and a num ber of helpers. A meeting was held this forenoon and committee appointed to raise a large relief fund. KILLED WITH A CLUB. Farmer Quarrels With His Wife and Loses His Lifo. The Dalles, Or., July 8. News has just been received by a messenger from tbe settlement near this place, called Ten Mile, of tbe killing of a man named E. W. Wlihelm by his twenty-two year old son William. Wlihelm was a man fifty-five years of age, who has not been living with his family for some time. Yesterday be returned home and quarrelled with his wife, and reached for a gun to shoot her. The boy seeing their lives in dan ger, struck his father over the head with a club, killing him Instantly. He came here tills mornlug and gavo him self up to the sheriff, who, with tho coroner, has repaired to the scene of tbe tragedy. Paris Quiet. Paris., July 8. Everything Is quiet In the city this mornlug. It Is believed tbe strong measures of tbe government are having proper effect in restoration of order. Two hundred rioters were ar rested last night. A special from Boston to an afternoon paper says iu regard to tbe cancerous growth In tht president's meuth: "It was noticed a year or so ago, but it gavo no trouble until lately. Last Sunday, under tbe advlco of a specialist, It was removed. It was a small affulr, and was removed without difficulty, though, 'of course it was very painful. Tbe physicians re quire perfect rest to insure a full and speedy recovery, No further trouble is anticipated. Tho same authority states that tbe presence of tbe president's sis ter, Mrs. Hoyt, of Beatrloe, Neb., is not demanded by the president's illness, but in connection with tho culmination of an Interesting event mora nearly concerning tho president's wife. Buzzards Bay, July 8. Pres. Cleve land last night was feeling bettor than he was in the morning. His knee Is lame and his left fool swollen so he Is obliged to wear a big shoe. Tho pub lished report that the president Is suf fering with a cancer is denied. Dr. Bryant says tho president Is absolutely freo from cancers or malignant growth of any description and that tho report Is absolutely false. No operation has been performed except that a bad tooth hasbeeu extracted. Dr. Bryant Is of tho opinion that the president will be able to go out In a day or two. A Light Fine. Omaha, Neb., July 8. Why this particular report had not been printed be did not know. Tho animus of the report had been explained by tho faot that Elliott was connected with the lessoo company, whoso interests ho had been supporting during the contest be tween tho old and new companies for a new lease. The western rouds havo finally backed down on the ques tion of world's fair rates, and seven and eleven day excursions from all points In the Westorn Passenger association territory aro now assured, Tho associa tion meeting was taken up entirely by discussion and arrangement of excur sions. Tbo committee of world's fair exhibitors urged tbo establishment of a one-fair rate and after they were withdrawn and the puggestlon dis cussed the report for a ono-fare rate without restrictions was adopted with but ono negative vote. The first sale of tickets Is to bo made July 17th. An other meeting of the association will be hold August 1st and suoh action will be taken regarding tho continued sale of oue-faro tickets as tho July excursions shall warrant. Short Wheat Crop. Toledo, O., July 8, Reports from grain dealers and millers covering six principal wheat produolng states, pro ducing two-thirds of total crop, indicate that they will furnish about 150,000,000 bushels this year, against 230,000,000 last year. New wheat will not move as early as usual. Sections which usu ally ship early have a poor crop. Over 60 per cent of tho farmers say they will hold, or aro not disposed to sell at tbe present low figures. Do Not Bo Deceived.
