denerotta Rivalry of 3Cht(Townio
Compete With Balem.
This stirring little place has been
quite quiet this week. All business
suspended, all difference of opinion
settled, all old sores heated nud all the
people of one tnltid. All sing the same
song, all speak the same language, and
the coyote and sheep- embraced each
other. The language they speak and
tho song they sing Is all about the cele
bration of tho 4th of July at Aumsvllle.
Tho only strife Is to. see who can give,
and do the moxt to make the celebra
tion a success. Through tho Journal
wo say that our friendship for the peo
ple of Balem Is unchanged, notwith
standing that we Intend to celebrate
the4tb, In fact our friendship for Ba
lem suggested the thought. We knew
that there were so many "city-tired"
people Who dreaded the extra dust and
confusion of the 4tb, and would be glad
to drive out In the country to the beau
tiful grovo at Aumsvllle, and la the
cool shade listen to stirring speeches
and sweet music. But our friendship
for beautiful Balem compels us to urge
some of its Inhabitants to remain at
home, for while we want to benefit the
people, we don't wish to spoil Salem's
Fourth of July. Bo we urge all who
can't get away to celebrate at Balem.
Our grove will not bold over 16,000
people, bo don't ull come, let some stay
at homo and take care of the babies.
Charles Helns has a brand new
buggy. The babies will now bave
mauy nice drives.
Miss Fay Ball celebrated her fourth
birthday on Monday, tho lLtb iust.
The little ones had a good time, and
wish birthdays would come quicker,
especially Miss Fay Ball's.
All communities bave their "Jack."
We have one In the chairman of our
school board. Bonds were voted, 88 for
and 17 against but he refuses to sign
the bonds, aud has called a meeting to
see if the people want him to sign them.
We don't want to be harsh, but if he
doesu't-consider the instructions given
him, when the bonds weie voted, suf
ficient instruction, then he is king of
"Jacks," or a very Arm man.

When papa reads tbls, he will 'learn
