A young man wusorderul Bent to the asylum today by County Judge Hublmid, after examination by Dr. S. It Jes sup and Prosecuting Attorney Con dit. He was found wandering on the streets late last night when the police arrested him. He was labor ing under the belief that some one was follwing him to kill him. He was about 35, well dreBsed, and re fused to talk. No letters or means ofindentiflcation could be found, and all he would give was nis name, Thomas McQuire. It was learned he had lived at St Paul ten years ago. A Pleasant Sukprise. On last evening a number of Rev. J. Bower s x's congrt-getion met at the Evan gelicul church, aud after arranging aa abundance of good things iu the sh ipe of provisions on the rostrum a committee called on the Rev. and bis good wife that their presence was wanted at the church. Upon their arrival they were preseuted to Rev. Bollinger, who with a cabbage underarm aud squash iu hand made an appropriate speech which was heartilly responded to by the pas tor. P. J. Strayer followed aud on behalf of the company preseut and of those who sent their contribu tions, preseuted to the pastor aud his wife a purse of J52.50. As the Rev. was taken completely by sur prise it was quite an enjoyable af fair. After a good sociable time all dispersed feeling better for the event of the evening. Merry Christmas. Judge Burnett Holds that the City Has No flight to the Road Tax. I Under the new law the county couit last year levied a two mill cash road tax ou all the assessed property In the county. The mayor belelved the city was entitled to the road tax money levied as above, upon city property. The county refused to pay it o- City At torney ichardson was In ucted to bring ui. w k been de cided In the Circuit court, upon a writ of review before Judge Burnett adversely to the city. Mr. Richard sou advised the council at the time that the suit would result disastrous ly to the city, and declined to com mence action unless the council would assume the responsibility of the expense. Died at his home near Mehama with consumption, Silas Clark McKune, aged 70 .ears, 1 month and 0 days. Mr. McKune was born in Su'quehuim couuty Penu. Nov. 11th, 1822. He lived there until he was 23 years of uge then moved to Illinois, lived theie for 35 years and then moved to Kansas. From there bo moved to I nva staying there a short time when he came to Ore gon, in May '91 bought a tmall farm near Mehama where he lived until his death Dec. 17th '92. He leaves a wife 3 children aud 4 step child ren. His last hours were spent In grout expectation of seeing his bro tlier before he died. His brother left Pennsylvania lust Monday and was expected to be here Saturday night. Mr. McKune leaves a host of fi lends to mourn his death. Mrs. Mi-Kuue will leave iu a few days for her old home In Iowa. The reuinlus were interred In the Fox Valley cemetry Monday, Dec. 19th. Shipping Dklicaces.
