OREGON WOOI, AND PROTEOMON.
The. G. Lang writes From The Dalles.
To the Editor op American
Econemist: The accompanying
illustrations will convince you of
our good faith, when we represent
to ypu the magnitude of tho wool
growing interest iu the valleys and
upon tho rolling plains and high
mountain plateaus of Oregon, east
of the Cascade range of mountains.
The illustrations to which we re
fer you represent tho largest of the
wool shipping plants of tho city,
which have already baled for for
warding this season more than five
million pounds.
The entire amount to go forward
from this point will reach Hear six
million pounds', which added to the
amount shipped at other outlets of
the basin above us of this product,
the amount to go tot Eastern markets
grown iu this great highland basin
will reach more than 16,000,000
pounds.
Allow us to say that we do not
wish to harm the good growers of
Australia, Buenos Ayres, Capo of
Good Hope, or other foreign coun
tries, but believe It best for us to
"boil our own pot," instead of that
of foreign wool growers, especially
when the wooleu manufacturers of
America feel that It is safest to de
fend American shepherds.
We greet the American flag as an
emblem of defense; wo enjoy its
privileges; wo pray you Bave the
Aineiican wool markets for Ameri
can shepherds.
The growing of 10,000,000 pounds
of wool in a year distributes food,
Are, light and comfort to any army
of stout pioneers. Btand by them
as disciples of Oregon industry and
labor, as you want Oregon shepherds
to stand by you in the doy of need.
