Tom's Cabin" perhaps did more than
anything else to break tho chains of tho
slave, and tho novels of Charles Reade
nnd Dickens aroused public sentiment
in England to tho outrages perpetrated
on working children and insane patients
as nothing elso had done.
Thero are stories enough written, iu
all conscience, but there is nothing in
thorn. Not more than oue in a huudred
of thoso sent to newspaper and magazine
offices can bo used. Thoy nro not worth
printing. But -wo do want more good
stories; the mora tho hotter. Where at e
tho rial magicians who shall inspire our
urod, stupid souls?
