CLEVELAND'S VOTES.
Chances of tho Ex-President For
Nomination.
Washington, May 21. Mr
Trucy, a warm supporter of Cleve
land has tabulated returns from
stale conventions held to date, and
figured on delegations to be selected
and declares with much emphasis
that Cleveland will recelvo tho uoml
nation probably on tho second bal
lot. Of tho convention already
.held, ho gives Cleveland 015; tin
instructed or autl-Clevclaud ballots,
185. Eighteen states have not de
clared their preference, and Tracv
divides them into sixteen for
Clevel ind, with 209 unlustructcd or
an tl-Clo vol and. According to
Tracy's calculations Cleveland will
lack only about nlnoty votes of the
nomination With this showing on
the first ballot, ho believes those
wavering or unlustructcd will coma
over. The nuti-Cleveland men say
tho claim Is extravagant.

"Yes, 1 do," replied tho other a

Tho barber becamo apologetic. "I
was only going to bay," ho explained
mildly, "what a chango has como

with yellow or red beg pardon, sir
men with blond mubtaches invari
ably dyed them black. Almost every
fellow you mot had a dyed mustache.
Now ono rarely bees one except in
tho polico department, where certain
traditions are retained as sacred."

An Alloy Statesman,
Tho reporter was trying to get an
opinion from a very diplomatic .con
gressman who was on tho fence as

"Are you in favor of a silver cur

"I did not say I was, did I?" was
tho evasive answer.
"Are you in favor of gold then?"
"Did I 6ay so?" and the congress
man winked.
""Well, what tho dickens aro you?"
asked tho reporter bluntly.
"Suppose," responded tho states
man carefully, "that you sot mo
