out with warm water. Into which has
been thrown a pinch of borax. Dry
carefully and apply a little pure olive
oil.
Bowaro of that common practice,
dipping tho comb in water when ar
ranging the hair. It promotes decom
position and rancidity of the natural
oil, and so leads to "rotting."
If tho hair bo naturally dry apply a
llttio olivo oil occasionally. 'If natural
ly oily, occasionally wash away tho ex
cess of sebaceous secretion by means of
a lather of tepid water and soap bark.
Salt water is most Injurious to tho
hair, for which reason when -sea bath
ing wear an oil cap.
Always treat tho scalp as if you
loved It. Tako to heart Dr. Godfrey's
dictum that "Every touch affecting so
delicate a toxturo as tho scalp should bo
soft and soothing; overy application
bland nnd mild." Don't uso stiff bris
tled or wire brushes, and in all cases
brush gently. Also, always brush out
tho hair beforo attempting to comb it,
and uso tho comb as littlo as possible.
Havo tho ends of tho hair clipped
onco a month, If only to prevent them
from splitting; but don't close crop.

An Improved kind of soap for metal
work has lately been described, of somo
special advantages, it is said, as com
pared with thoso usually employed In
this lino that Is, mixtures of vaseline,
oleio acid aud fat, combined with a
small quantity of rougo nnd which,
when freshly prepared, leave nothing
to bo desired, excepting, unfortunately,
that such compositions soon turn ran
cid and become unlit for uso.

grams of tho butter nro melted In an
