The Dalles Chronicle asks, will Hermann decline, meaning tho re publican (ongressloiinl nomination. It is not certain that Mr. Hermann will be placed hi that embarrassing position where he will have any thing to decline. The paper referred to is more concerned about Mr. Hermann than it is about a candl date from lis own district. This is 1 he case with the Oregouian, and all its mild but faithful satellites. They are all solid for Hermann. It would be a sharp move on Mr. Hermann's pait to move over Into that district. It would leave his many friends hi this district, to whom ho has been dtepenslug millions at every tea pot t, out in the cold. The only re gret Is that Mr. Hermann w ill not gratify his solid newspaper frieuds from tho cowbody counties. Tho Oregoulau can never lovo any new congressman as it does Hermann. Its cultured eoul revolts at the idea of representing an unmanageable wild cowboy district. Mr. Hermann himself would no doubt gladly rep lesent the other district if ho could. But tho charms Hero are too great. Too mauy bays, harbors, rivers aud creoks open their mouths for millions. Hero is a field for making promises which all Eastern Oregon could not supply. In Western Ore gon ho can Hermauize any couuty out of tho national treasury. Coos Buy alono ho otters two millions, and why should not Coos B.iy bo solid for hhu ? Just why the smaller organs In Eastern Oregon should bo for Herman u dees not appear, ex cept that the -Oregonian has piped and they must dance. Oregon anil tho Lady Hoard of World Fair .Malingers. This subject has not been heard from for somo time iu this state. Neither have tho lady members for Oregon. In this respect they much resemble the geutlemeu who repre sent Oregon's interests at tho World's fair. Oregon has by mlsfortuno or .mismanagement secured most In active rnnrapntatton. All tills may yet be remeuien. The wnolu nation has a prido in Mrs. Potter Palmer, tho chief of tho National Board. Sho is ouu of America's representative womon. Site has wealth, a cultivated intel lect aud great social preatigo. Site has met at homo aud abroad tho noted womon of tho world, nnd has lately travelled and been received at all the courts of Europe on behalf of Woman's work at tho fair.- Mrs. Potter is not only ono of America's society queons, nml a lady of great executive nbi'lty, nnd above all a woman ot the highest and pu re eat typo of morals. Sho has refused to receive some of tho mombers of tho Woman's Board of World's Fair Managers, that camo with high political endorsement, but whoso records wore not spotless aud whoso reputation aud standing at home was not above reproach. Sho de mands that each member of tho na tional board of women managers bo liko Caesar's wife, above even sus picion. Two lady members from eastern states have been rejected and private detectives liavo been put on track of a number of others whose names have figured on court records In divorce suits to not tho best ad vantage. Besides beiug a woman of puiest morals Mrs. Palmer Is determined tho Woman's Board shall not bo used for any hobbles whatever. Tho fight against Phoebe Cousins was tint against herasn!ady, butasa Woman Suflrago propagandist, who wanted to convert all work at tho world's fair Intoa female suflrago argument. Mrs. Palmer is determined that politics, religion nor any special agi tation shall rule on that great oo caslou when American womanhood in all Its manifold developments shall Miino out as u beacon light of progress tohorsisterson every squaro mlio of tho globe. It Is to bo regret ted that In tho sisterhood of states Oregon has not been more conspicu ously represented, and If there are any giod reasons why either of the lady nr rubers of (he Woman's Board from Oregon (liould not bo recognized on the committees, they should bj made known to the au thorities aud lite obstacle removed. On gou has an ubuudanca of noble women, who could stuud up aud be count Hi as tho equals, soclully and in uvery way, of tho delegates from any state In the Union.
