The address of welcome by Col.
Miller wa the epitome of all the
good and handsome things that a
true young Oregonian could say to
the incoming multitude. His ad
dress was eloquent, scholarlly aud
to the jioint. The people of Salem
are under deep obligations to Mr.
Miller for his contribution to the
slates picnic.
Hon. G. P. Saundorson'M response
was equally appropriate and patri
otic. The Pine Tree state certainly
did her share.
The "home guard" band and Prof.
Parvln's glee club were not only
useful and ornamental, but added
much to the pleasure of the occasion.
Kansas took tho entire bakery In
the matter of registration, but a
number of llio other western states
still think they can hold tho "grass
hopper" level for numbers.
Tho states picnic has convinced
many doubtless of the wonderful
emigration to Salem the past few
years. The new people aio counted
by thousands and tliow still coming
can be counted by tens of thousands.
They are all welcome.
It was Impossible to print the full
list registered to-day. The remain
der will bo found in tomorrow's
issue.
Not a drunken man vas seen on
the fair grounds all day tho Hli.
Pennsylvania took tho If.'ul In
permanent organization by electing
II. S. Crlssiuau president, aud F. J.
Strayer secretary.
Kansas was too much for Iowa
In numbers, but the llawkeyes
took tho lead for enterprise by freez
ing lemon Ico on the grounds m
the period of .'10 seconds. J. H,
Albert did it with his Jack Frost
music box.

Flower"
I had been troubled five months
with Dyspepsia. The doctors told
me it was chronic. I had a fullness
ifter eating and a heavy load in the
pit of my stomach. I suffered fre
quently from a Water Brash of clear
matter. Sometimes a deathly Sick
ness at the Stomach would overtake
me. Then again I would have the
terrible pains of Wind Colic. At
such times I would try to belch and
could not. I was working then for
Thomas McHeury, Druggist, Cor.
Irwin and Western Ave., Allegheny
City, Pa., in whose employ I had
been for seven years. Finally I used
August Flower, and after using just
one bottle for two weeks, was en
tirely relieved of all the trouble. I
can now eat things I dared not touch
before. I would like to refer you to
Mr. McHcnry, for whom I worked,
who knows all about my condition,
aud from whom I bought the medi
cine. I live with my wife and family
at- 39 James St., Allegheny City, Pa.
