The former weighs law pounds and the latter weighs 1CJ0 pounds. Those are fine horses and are well adapted to the many solid uses of the farming commu nity. They are good travelers and will make good roadsters as well as work horses. Such a breed of burses has long leen needed in ore cou and will, no doubt be higlilv appreciated by the stock raisers of the country. Cuival aud Gonlet, the latter of Woodburu Marion county Oregon nud the formar of Canada, have on fshibiiiou one French Canadian stallion weighing 1425 pounds. He is a beautiful dark bay or brown in eolor aud has any amount of style .ibout him. While he is styled a horse of t.11 work yet he is n X o. 1 roadster and his stock will also be -uitable and large enough for almost any kiud of farm work, and it is thought by many that this kind of horses will be better adapted to reneral work than many of the larger nreeds. Heury Flttcher, of Salem, has on exhibition one beautiful black Straueer mare entered for all work, rihe Is a good representative animal of her kind of stock aud worthy to be shown at any fttate fair. He has alo one two-year-old Altamont flllev aud also a one-year-old filley from the same hore aud more that are beauties. Thor- fillies are well bred and will some day make their mark on the turf. Sherman Hatch, of .Lafavette, The .Methodists at Pacific Gme have done well to start a fund for worn-out clergymen, their widows and orphans. Except in a few large cities the .Methodist preacher i paid a very poor salary, and the en forced removal every two years pre rents him even if he be thrifry.from securing a home. Few preahers are able to curry a life insurance large enough tosupport their faiullies, aud If they become disabled before death comes, as is so often the case, then their condition is pitiable indeed. A fuud of this kind, managed with Judgment, could not fail to relieve much suffering. S. F. Chronicle. S. F. Chrenicle: It reflects but little credit on the party which is so fond of calling itself the party of the people that its action in should have compelled Congress to take steps to prevent such matter In the luture. It shows that the Democratic party is at all times read.t to sacrifice everything to political success, even though It lie tempora ry, and that instead of working lor tbe interests of the people it U'lievc its proper function to be the attain meut of partisan victory.
