Dumars, superintendent of Hie Western Union Telegraph in this city nnd one of the best agents on tho whole system, took a trip to Portland this morning. Miss Hnlly Parrisb, who has a permanent engagement in the choir of oue of the principal Congrega tional churches of Portland, has been visiting at her home here the past week. She went to Portland this morning blddiug good-bye to Salem fora time. Editor Whitney, of the Albany Herald, is still dangerously sick. He is one of the best known of Ore gon's able uewspaner workers, nnd the press of the state watches with keen luterest bis prolonged struggle with disease, hoping for an ultimate victory. Mrs. D. R. Gray, Miss Mabel and Master Carl took the moruing train for Portland to join Mr. Gray, al ready there, where they will make their future home. It would be difficult to find a more deslraote family than this and its members will be much misseu from Salem society. Archie, the 8 year old son of B. Wiesner, of Howell, narrowly es caped being badly Injured last Wed nesday at the fair. A horse that wf-s bitched to a buggy became frightened and ran the buggy over the boy, the wheel passing over his breast, but fortunately not iuuring blm to any extent. The State Fair was the newsboy's feast, nnd they enjoyed all their privileges. They had free passes on all the cur lines at the fair grounds, (when gate-keepers stopped to light a cigar).
