about Harman, in Lee county, and
proceeded to Sublet, Compton and
Pawpaw. A great many are seri
ously injured, but as the damage
and wreck is disfibuted over a dis
tance of thiny miles it cannot all le

dead, mostly children. The school
house in Brooklyn township south
of here is completely demolbhed.
The teacher and scholars were near
ly all iujuied, two children meeting
death. The loss t)f properly so far
heard from is over $100,000.

Colusa, Cal., June 21. Charles
Bell, a coachman and servant for J.
W. Goad, this morning stabbed his
wife in several difi'erent place and
then cut her throat with a large
pocket knife. They have been hav
ing trouble for some time and Mrs.
Bell had commenced a suit for di
vorce. The immediate cause of the
deed is unknown. Both arc colored.
The doctors are trying to save her
life, but she will probably die. Bell
escaped and started on the run down
the river, but the sheriff and others
have staged in pursuit. The feel
ing against the man isiiitonso nnd
threats of lynching are freely made.

Aumsville is located in Marion
county, Oregon, 14 miles south
east of Salem, in the midst. of a rich
grain, fruit and stock country. The
country tributary to Aumsville pro.
duces 400,000 bushels of grain yearly,
200.000 bushels of fruit and vegeta
bles, and supports thou.sauds of head
of stock. Among its other advan
tages Aumsville has three miles of
l valuable water power, a largo leni-
lizer rock quarry on what is known
as the Butler place, one mile west
of town. It has good shipping
facilities, having one railroad
