Tho coming week in congress will bo marked by some activity, but little that is startling. Mr. Heed will further enlarge tho list of commit tees already appointed if ho docs not 1111 out tho entire number. Several reports from the commlttoo on rules, bearing upon the proposed now com mittees, are expected but nothing is likely to happen in relation to the proposed change in tho rules until after tho holidays. The committee on appropriations will probably report and pass to-morrow its urgent deficiency bill in order to get it over to tho senate on Tuesday. This involves the compensation of many em ployes who have worked for months without pay, as tho funds havo run out and it is desired to pay them be fore tho two houses adjourn for the holidays. Should all tho commit tees bo appointed tho flood of bills now waiting for a call of states may be precipitated Wednesday orThurs day. Tho Sllcott commltteo will probably make a further report, ac companied by a bill to mako good tho deficiency and allow members to get their raouoy. In tho senate an additional number of bills will bo introduced, and tho committee on finance will begin tho considera tion of tariff bill. The senate Dem ocratic caucus will probably finish its lists of members for tho re-organized committees, and thoy will be announced on Tuesday. It Is not unllkoly that a concurrent resolu. tion for an adjournment from Thurs day to January 8th, will bo adopted in botli houses to-morrow. INFLUENZA ACltOSS THE WATERS. Eight Cuses ltoportcd In New York A Terrible Malady, New York, Dec, 10. Dr. Edson, of tho health board, to-day reported that thero had been discovered in this city eight cases of foreign in fluenza. Tho first victim, a young lady, was taken down Thursday last. It is supposed she contracted the disease from a family who re turned from Europe a few days ago. Her first symptoms was vertigo, speedily followed by headueuo and chills. Then she becamo deathly sick with puins in her limbs nud muscles. This was succeeded by bronchial catarrh, soreness of throat ami coughing, followed by a high fever and exceedingly rapid pulse, which at times reached 120 to the minute. Since then several other members of tho family havo been attacked by the disease. Tho health olllccra say it is not danger ous, but if it lends to become epi demic, all caws will bo quarantined.
