Oh Who Will It ltc?
lUorrcspondonco of the Cnpltnl Journal.
Who will bo our next alderman is
a matter of no small importance to
our oncenore prosperous citjv
Is it to b tho order of the rulers to
hold back the progress of public im
provement in general? ,If history
repeats Itselfyy that's enough, wo
should not. Looking backward, we
see many very strange sights. Pro
feet of that Opposition. And I
might recite sstrugglo abovcry step
made in that'directlon. Ns
The Caoltal Flourinc Mill com
r v
pany hava had.a hard time.
Under arious pretenses, opening
tho streets have met opposition all
along tlA line. Tho removal to a
hetter siteuuder the most ftivornblo
conditions of the now passenger
depot, was opposed. Tho eitizons
were ready to pay all expense of re
moval. -,
Tho "City Dads" gave thrail
road company to understand that
bonds would be demanded .est they
should violate some of thclty ordi
nances. Tho cty laws are uncertain
in their eflects. No onrfltuows what
they are. No ono who opposes
progress in anyyUrection; no one
who opposes me motor nue; no ono
who is counectetLwith schemes, and
who may bo opposed to otliors of
like diameter suoulc be elected to
a place that will jeopardize tho
progress ofho city at large.
Wo shovfld not elect an alderman
who wilyxppose tho motor lino or
any oher improvement. The
motor lino is of more importance to
the general public than almost any
other improvement on foot.
