A funny joke, and all the more
palatable, as its truth can be vouch
ed for, occurred in a prominent
church in New Jersey. It seems
that a worthy deacon had boon very
industrious in selling a new chuich
book, costing seventy-flve cents. At
thoservicein question, the minister,
just before dismissing the congrega
tion, rose and said:' "All ye who
have children to baptize will please
to present them next Sabbath."
The deacon, who, by the way, was
a little deaf, having an eye on sell
ing the books, and supposing the
pastor was referring to them, inline
diatelyjumped up and sheuted:
"All you who haven't, can get as
manv as you want by calling on me,
at seventy-live cents each."

A FAMOUS BATTLE-GROUND.
On the banks of the Tippecanoe, a
small stream which enters the Wa
bash River in Indiana, was fought the
terrific battle of Tippecanoe.
In this great struggle of frontier
times, tho allied western Indian un
der the chi-'tainship of ElskwaUwa,
the ''Prophet" were dofooted in No
vember, 1811, by the Americans tin
dor tho command of Gen. Win. II.
Harrison.
It was a desperate, hard-fought
battle, and much depended upon tho
result.
Had the Indians been successful,
all barriers of defence for the early
settlers w uld have been overthrown
and the eadly tomahawk would have
been active in the rapid extermina
tion of the remaining pioneors. On
tho other hand the fortnnute termin
ation of the contest put on end to fur
ther attempts at open warfare by tho
Indians. The rich torritory, so long
overrun by hostile savages, was
thrown onen for settlement, which
rapidly occurred as soon as the news
of tho great victory becaiu wide
spread. Naturally great praise was rendered
to the success and intrepid bravery
of Gen. HarriBon and he was honored
in manv ways. He afterwards served
as Commander of tho Army of the
Northwest, and when Indiana was ad
mitted to Statehood, ho was selected
to represent the State in the United
States Senate. In 1840 he was elected
President and his unfortunate domino
occurred shortly after beinu inaugu
rated. Tho forty-second anniversary of the
Battle of Tippecanoe found the gal
lant grand-son of "Old Tip" lending
his forces to a great political victory
which resulted in tho selection of Gen.
Ben. Harrison as Proiidcnt of the
United States.
The Harrisons havo boon a hardy
race of men, sprung from old log
cabin stock, which is a sufficient
guarantee of its genuineness wherever
found. Hcaliiin? the truth of this,
great effort has been made to re-discover
some of the screts contained
in tho old log cabin stock of UBeful
articles, and as the result, the famous
Old Log Cabin Saraparilla, univer
sally regarded as the best Spring
tonic and blood cleanser has been
found. Not satisfied with the world
