tion of General Washington with the
land business.
In a copy of a Baltimore, paper
published in April, 177.'!, appears an
advertisement of George Washing
ton, dated at Mount Vernon. In
this ailvertisment lie offers twenty
thousand acres of land in Virginia
on the Ohio and Kanawha rivers.
The tract Is to be subdivided to suit
purchaseis and sold on very easy
payments. Purchasers need not
pay anything dow u if they will clear
upund fence II veneres out of every
hundred and plant fifty fruit trees
thereon. If tills clearing, planting

alter occupancy. The payments
were called "icntal" so as not
to give settlers a claim to the prop

shape, but the commencement of

he had associated with him Mr.
