The Truth About Seattle.
Skattlk, June 11. A careful
canvass reveals the situation In this
city to bens follews: The business
men uro almost entirely without
store rooms, but are putting up
tetds in which they will be able to
dispose of their wares until more
suitable quarters can be erected.
This element of our citizens are
abundantly ible to care for them
selves. Thero are a large number of peo
ple In this city, including elerks,
etc., with and without families, who
have lost their all, and a large num
ber of persons also who are destitute
and without food or shelter, excopt
what Is given them. These peoplo
are being cared for the liest way pos
sible, but as it will lie some mouths
before they can bo supplied with
houses, auy contribution in tho
shape of bedding, food and house
hold goods of all kinds will be most
acceptable.
Quite an amount of funds will bo
required to tide us over, but liberal
donations of money, which nre
being gratefully received, will on
able us to relieve tho most needy.

The Valley of Death.
Johnstown, Pa., June ll. Tit Is
Is the last day for clearing away the
otlectsof the Hood by the civil au
thorities. To-morrow tho state takes
hold of the stupendous work.
Tho horror of the situation is not
diminished, but rather grows. The
search for the dead continues, and
in all sections and directions dead
are being found. A number of bodies
arc now coming to tho surface of the
waters, and competent Judges say
that as many more bodies as have
been found are lving somewhere.
In many unexpected places bodies
aro hourly found. Where this will
end, no human mind can guess.

for some time past to this city and
causing her friends auy amount of
curiosity in consequence. Now
their curlodty has been pntlsllcd,
they having learned the object of her

Is a violinist, and her little trips to
