A Parody.
I snt by my girl nt midnight kiss
ing hrr lips Vy the hour; her father
was watching through the keyhole
with n visage grim and sour. I
paused for breath, in rapture my'
feelings were aw fill queer, when her
irate sour old father rushed iu nnd
grabbed my ear. LTow often, O how
often lu tho days that Jiave gone
by, had I tiled to be sly. But now
that lie had caught me, my car was '
ifi his grmp, to my senses it quickly j
broughtme when my thro.it his hand
did clasp; beneath my Happing coat
skirts his foot lie firmly setmnd. sent
mo fiyfng out of doors where the
grass was cold and wet. How often,
OJiow often when I think of that
' sad night, does my blood boil and
bubbles-polling for a fight. But when
I still remember, the keyhole in the
door and how the kises tender,
mixed up witli body sore, I took
my meals while standing for days
dud weeks gone by, I resolved to
stop up the keyhole before I kis on
the sly. Ex.

, IThe question "whole is the state
of matrimony?" was once asked
nnd received the following answer:
""The state of matrimony is in the
unitkd states. It is bounded on
one side by hugs and ki-es, and on
the other side by babies and cradles.
Its principal productions are popu
lation, broom-sticks and staying-out-o'nights.
The climate is tropical
until you p'aA the meridian of house
keening; beyond that it is squally.
It was discovered by Adam and Eve
while searching for a northwest pas
sage out of the garden of Eden. For
the different ro.uls leading to tins
interesting btate, consult the fir-t
pair of blue eyes youmeet."
Cold Consolation.
Mrs. Stetson, wife of the operator
at a little town in Now Mexico,
was sickaud steadily growing worse,
at last she said to her husband:
"Stet, that Dr. -j ain't helpiu' me
one solo bit. I'm gottin' worse
everyday."
"I know it, Alice, I know it.
Don't appear like he's any good on
earth."
"I tell, you, Stet, I'm goin' to die.
I feel it in my bone"
"Wal, Alice" (with solemn ear
nestness and comfort) "If you do I'll
be If I ever pay the doctor."
"What is an echo?" asked tho
teacher ot the infant class. "It's
what you hear when you shout," le
plied a youngster. "Is it caused by
a hill or a hollow?" again asked the
teacher. "Both," was the ready ic-J
ply. "How so?" "The hill throws
back the holler."
A counterfeit silver certificate has
madeits appearance. On themedal
liou on the back of the noto in the
word "riuribns" the "1" Is missing,
and th re arc other discrepancies.
" A PUBLIC BENEFACTOW.
- "Who is H.H. Warner, of Rocho
ter, N. Y., whose Safe Remedies, o
'pecially Warner's Safe Cure, have at
'Uined such success and celebrity at
borne and abroad 7"
The question is inspired as much bv
affection as curiosity, since through
his Instrumentality hundreds of thou
sands, in both hemispheres, have
been restorsd to health and happi
ness. Hon. H. EL Warner, then, is
leading and honored resident ol
Rochester, not only, but a prominent
and influential citizen of the United
States. On several occasions chosen
by his party as a National delegate to
nominate a President of the Republic,
be has been a membor of tho Repub
can State Committee and of its Exe
cutive Committee. He is a 'member
of tho American Institution for the
Advancement of Science; Tresiiient
of the Rochester Chamber of Com
merce; a successful and upright busi
ness man. He has given away for
tunes in charities. Tho celebrated
and costly Warner Observatory of
Rochester was conceivod, eudowod,
and i3 maintained by him. His
munificent prizes forthe discovery of
comets has been at once ine wouuur
and delight of the scientific world.
The yellow fever scourago in the.
South, tho Ohio floods, tho fire dis
' asters of Rochester and other citios
aw akened his profoundest sympathies
and in each instance his check for
from J500 to $5,U00 swellod the sovoral i
reliof funds. Whero other wealthy
men give tons and hundreds, he gives
hundreds and thousands.
His charities are as ready and
magnificent as his enterprises and
public spirit are boundless.
The world has need of more such
men.
nn incident led hitn into tho manu
facture ot medicine. Seized some
twelve years ago with what the ablest
physicians termed fatal kidney dis
ease, he was miraculously restored to
health by what is now known as
Warner's Safe Cure. At once he ro
solved to make known tho merits of so
potent a remedv, and tho consequence
is that to-day he has imninnso labora
tories and warehouses in the United
States, Canada, England, Germany,
Austria, Australia and Burmah. bales
ol his Safe Remodies are enormous,
and their power over disease simply
marvelous. , .
The merit of a production is in ex
act keeping with the character of Its
producer. An honest and reliable
man himself, Mr. Warner make
honest and reliable medicines a fact
abundantly attested by their pheno
menal efficacy and popularity.
