The Manchester, New Hnmpshlre,

the Santa Fe railway stock, from
$110 down to 79, a loss of over for

around its vicinity, mariy of whom
were poor people coiripuratively, as
it was the favorite stock in New
England, among till "Western roads.
Tills depreciation is the work of con
spiracy as was that ot the "Q"
lines. "Getit down as low aspossi
ble, gobble it up and we (some half
a dozen of us) own it all." Since
1880 when the Santa Fe was carry
ing thousands of passengers daily
at $10 pur head from Kansas City to
San Francisco and return, it htis
ceased to make such enormous sums.
Then it took in some fifty thousand
dollars for passengers besides enor
mous sums for freight. Had 'the
road continued an independent
course, refusing to pool, it would not
bo in its present condition. At low
reasonable rates such as are exacted
for carrying hogs, ajl the transcon
tinental lines could be carrying
millions of people whore they are
now carrying hundreds. Why they
persist in the present suicidal course
the Powers Supreme only know and
will not tell.

The subsidy , of 20,000 is not yet
raised, and until it is and every
cen,t of it such information is as
false and misleading as the craniped
and belittled soul that gave it utter
ance. , The locution of .woolen mills in
this city will mark the birth of an
unprecedented era in the prosperity
of tho capital city, but there should
bo no resting on the oars Until their
