Information regarding this far-off
laud. Korea is a peninsula of about
the same shape as Florida or Italy,
and It hangs down into the Pacific
Ocean from the northeast ledge of
China and the lower edge of Russian
Siberia. Between it and China is the
dirty, boisterous, Yellow Sea which
takes a day and a night by steamer
to cross, and its lower coast is about
an equal distance from the western
edge of Japan. It has 17,000 miles
of sea coast, and its western shores
arc lined with bold and rocky
Islands. It is a land of mountains.
A great chain winds through it from
north to south, and going by the
land in a steamer its coasts look
mountainous, bleak and bare. Nu
ture, however, has done well for it.
Its mountains are filled with min
erals and its soil, under proper cultl
tion, would blossom liko the robe.
Mr. Dinsmore, our minister, says
that more than $3,000,000 worth

year, and tho foreigners there say
that the supplies of gold are rich in
the extreme. Tho climate is delight
ful. Its air is as bracing as that of
Colorado, and its springs and its
autumns are like the winters of ( 'ali-fornia.
