cil, Tulrons of Husbandry, for the
forfeiture of the land grant to the
Dallas Military "Wagon-Road com
pany of Oregon to the committee
on the public lands, which was fol
lowed by the following resolution :

form tho house what action, If any
has been taken by him in tho mat
ter of tho cancellation or annulment
of patents and lists of selections of
lands heretofore granted by congress
and now claimed by tho Dallas Mil
itary "Wagon-Road company in the

stored to the public domain for set
tlement. Tho memorial and'.resolution were

that from his observations ho is sat
isfied that the northwest country
has passed through its hardest
days and that It has already
entered upon an era of devel
opment that will astonish tho old
moss-backs mid old settlers general
ly. He centinues: "I find where
over I go, many who aro preparing
to leave the crowded east for the Pa
cific slope, and In most cases for the
northern territories. Men of wealth
and enterpriso are looking to our
mineral wealth and timber and are
willing to invest their capital there
in. The fact that we shall soon be
come sovereign states will greatly
help us as in that case more stubihty
In government and tho laws may
be expected. We who have watch
ed and waited so long can now see
the way clear and open." Mr.
Chaso will continue to travel in the
east for several months.

titled to open all his letters, it is safe
to say that the appointment of their
wives as private secretaries is not
likely to become popular among our
United States senators.
At Annapolis, Md., Friday, a
