The steamer Citv of Hudson was driven into Catsklll Creek and is there froen fast. Down river pns'-engers and freight boats between Now York and this city are laid in for shelter from the storm. Several ferryboats and transfer barges are repotted sunk. Tills storm appears to haveinclud el all the tcnltory cast of the Mississippi river, and north of the Gulf of Mexico, and raged with the utmost fury in some localities for several days, In many localities there , is n well regulated custom for each house holder to prepare a cave as n safe fctrcat for the family in case of a cyclone during the summer, and be in a continued dread of the terrible "blizzard" during the winter. Nor is that all ; floods, drouths, cold and Jieat each exert a greater or less in fluence tqm, akcnum pitscrable. Thero arc hundreds of other advantages that go to make pleasant homes, which will sooii be utilized and appreciated by many of tlio homeseekers now locating In our state. It Is cmito evident that Oregon is not a para dise, but perhaps is as near that as apy other part jf the world. Tio day of prosperity is at hand.
