More fruit trees have been set out
lately within a radius of threo and
n half miles of Zena, than iu any
similar area In the Willamette
valley, wo believe.
A fruit growers' association Is
greatly needed here. It would bo
beneficial In many ways. Wo need
to meet and discuss the best methods
for carrying this Infant industry to
a grand success. Who will help In
this matter?
Some ono could make a fortune by
starting a cannery at Lincoln. Ho
could get 200 acres of peas and corn
guaranteed for next season. Twenty
live acres of strawberries, ten acres
of blackberries, llfty acres of plums
and prunes; ten acres of Royal Ann
cherries; twenty-live acres of Rartlet
pears, all as soon as could bo pro
duced. Who will investigate tills?
There Is no doubt hut that plenty of
land would bo donated by the people
of Lincoln.
Good fences make good neighbors.
So keep your fences well In repair;
and If your neighbor's stock trouble
you because of your poor fences,
don't complain.
. Farmers In this section have not
shown much enterprise iu tho mat
ter of blooded stock. Ono or two
have tried to encourage tho breeding
ofgood strains, but have not met
tho encouragement they deserved.
Let us work out of this rut.
Ten acres well cultivated, plowed
deep and thoroughly tended, will
produce more at less expense, than
thirty poorly farmed.
New methods, nioro system,
greater enterprise, moro frequent
social intercourse, more public spirit,
that's what Zena needs. God has
done all lie could for us.
Our school has been brought to
an untimely end by scarlet fever.
C. C. Walker has been ailing for
