nnd exposure. Measures, however,-
have been taken to alleviato their
Bufferings.

There is no crop ruised hero ex

Slept With a near.
A Kingston, N. Y., dispatch tells
the following remarkable boarstory :
It hardly seems credible that a
child should meet with a wild bear
111 tno woods, nestle close to its
warm robo of fur, and sleep all night
with bruin and not bo harmed at all.
On Wednesday afternoon last a 21-year-old
daughter of Millard Davis
of Boiceville, In the Catskill Mount
ains, disappeared and no trace of
hor could be found, although search
ing parties were out all night. On
Ihursday n man who was fishing
for trout discovered tho little girl
standing in tho middle of a brook
that runs through a deep ravino be
tween two mountains. Sho had
wandered over two miles away from
home. The parents were overjoyed
in recovering their little one. And
now comes the strange part of the
incident. The little girl has never
been known to tell stories.nndln fact
is too young and innocent to prac
tice deceit. When her father asked
her where, sho had slept all night
tho little ono answered. "In tho
woods with a big bear, papa." Sho
was closely questioned, but the child
adhered to her story that sho had
slept with a bear in tho woods, and
people in Boiceville believe that the
little girl did really meet with a
bear, and, not kuowingwhat it was,
went up to it, and for some reason
tho beast refrained from hurting the
wanderer. There aro other peonlo
who believe tiio baar ciiiuo out of
the mountains to tho vicinity of
Mr. Davis's house, and tho child
seeing the shaggy brute ran after it
and lollowed it to tho ravine.
