survey, left lust night for tho Pacific
slope. Ho said before storting that
three parties go to tho gold belt of
California, under tho direction of II.
N. Wilson ; two to tho Cascades
mountains, In Southern Oregon, un
der W. T. Griswold, with Eugene
Rickseeker, and threo to Montana,
under E. L. Douglass.
Those parties aro compelled to
start nt an early dato In order to
finish tho work of trinngulalion be
fore tho summer haze sets in. They
will have that done by July llrst,
and tho time from then to tho mid
dlo of November will bo devoted to
topography and Working out tho do
tails of tho triungulatlon.
Tho county charts of California
are on a scalo of two miles to tho
inch, and of Oregon and Montana,
four miles to tho inch. Tho Califor
nia parties will cover about 2000
miles each, and tho Oregon and
Montana parties from (5000 to 4000.
