Tho report of tho Schultz commission, appointed to collect information concerning the great Mnckcnzio river basin, northeast of Alaska, has been accept ed by tho senate. Tho commission ers refer to tho A'nst extent of in land navigation, namely, 13GO miles up tho Mackenzie being navigable for light draught steamers, 1390 more navigable for stern wheel steamers, and nearly 4000 miles of lake coast. There is a posslblo area of 050,000 square miles fitted for tho growth of potatoes, 407,000 square miles suit able for barley and 310,000 square miles suitable for wheat. There is a pastoral area of 800,000 squaro miles, 20,000 miles of Avhich is opcnprairlo; 274,000 squaro miles, including prairie, may bo considered as arable land. Tho commissioners think there are from 150,000 to 200,000 squaro miles which may bo consid ered auriferous. TELEGRAPH IC SPLINTS. Mny C. Ono thing, however, that is being overlooked, and n thing of great Importance, Is tho matter of road Improvements. What is tho matter with tho country supervisors? The country roads should bo repaired in all directions, and by the way, so should tho city streets, and these things should bo attended to.
