Tho Union League club of Now York, made up largely of trust-rob-bor monopolists, has declared by a vote of 8 to 1 in favor of freo whisky and tobacco and the loss of tho 120 millions of revenue derived there from. Tho exact language of tho resolution which tho club adopted, to Its lasting disgrace, Is as follews: "Wo advdeato at tho earliest practi cable day the abolition of tho inter nal revenuo department of tho United States as the safest nndwlsest way of reducing tho surplus in tho treasury and preserving unimpaired tho great principle of protection to American Industry." Thus tho al leged republicans of tho Union League club plant themselves on tho sumo platform with Confederate Sen ator .Too Brown of Georgia and tho illicit moonshine whisky dealers of the south. They are seeking fellow ship with the clay-eaters who aro willing to go barefoot and keep their families in rags, provided their jugs are well tilled with cheap whisky and the expense of getting drunk is made low. This club demand for war taxes on necessaries of life and for cheap intoxicants and narcotics is immoral, vicious, and peculiarly shameful when made by pretended republicans. It is doubtful whether tho repub lican party could carry a single stato in tho north on tho dear-clothes and cheap-drunk platform of tho New York Union League club. Chicago Tribune. New Hooks.
