Between "Big Joe" and a Neterfwt Woman, In
WMth the Uttert life l Threatened.
Last evening Jennie Ann JJowers,
a notorious woman who lives In the
'old court house, swore out a warrant
In Justice O'Donnld'a court for the
arrest of one Joseph Slmonaux,
charging him with assault with
intent to kill. Blnvmnux was im
mediately arrested and placed in
tho county Jail by Sheriff Minto.
Tills morning Justice O'Donuld
called tho case; but upon motion
postponed the hearing to to-morrow
at 1 o'clock p. in., upon the motion
of District Attornoy Belt who wished
to havo tltno to investigate the
matter and tho prisoner was dismiss
ed from custody upon his own
recegnizance:
Tho facts in the case as near as we
can learn are alxut as follews: The
old court houso Is divided into
several npitartinentu which are oc
cupied by Himuucaux, who Is better
known as "JllgJoe"or"Frcnch Joe,"
Grant Wagner and Mrs. George,
George Johns tho gambler, Mrs. Ann
Bowers, the plaintiff in this action,
and several other notorious char
acters. "Big Joe" claims that his
neighbors, especially Mrs. Bowers

especially by wild midnight orgies
and bacchanalian revels, which
have disturbed his slumbers anil
made his nights hideous. JIo has
