Dr James McShafter, .son of Judge James McShafter. married Miss A. Lange, in Germany seven years since, against the' desires of his father. The Judge's family then op poesed the entree of tho son's wife into their family and social circle without avail. In tho latter part of last year Dr. McShafter, presumably under paternal pressure, commenced a suit of divorce upon the grounds that his wife was not true to her marital vows. The tariff bill submitted by the ways and means committee of the house proposes to fix the duty on pig iron at $0 per ton. The duty on this is now $0.72 per ton. It prop6ses to fix tho duty on iron ore and steel railway bars weighing more then twenty fivo pounds to the yard and slabs of billets of steel, at $11 per ton. On iron ore and steel rails weigh ing not more than twenty-five pounds to the yard, $14 per ton. On iron ore and steel fiat mils punched, $15 per ton. WOOL DUTY FRIX. The bill provides for the admit ting, duty free, after July 1st, of all weols, hair of goats and other liko anlmals, wools on the skin, woolen rags, hoddy mingo, waste and flock. MANUKACTUHIiD WOOLKNS. After October 1st, 1888, it provides, among other tilings, for a 40-percent, duty on woolen and worsted cloth, shawls, and all manufactures of wool not specifically enumerated,, and on flanuels, blankets, knit goods, and women's and children's dress gqpds composed in part of wool. Thlais a reduction on manufactured articles.
