(From SaturdayStalesman.) .The State' Land Board yesterday held a meeting to discuss the matter of the reclamation of arid lands in Easffern Oregon, as 'A contemplated by " the law passed at the last session of the Legis lature. There are three large com panies and a dosen smaller . concerns, anxious to take advantage of the pre visions of the law regard4hg the r mat ion of desert lands, and they have submitted surveys arid etlmatesshow- the landsach desires to reclaim, and the cost at which land may be secured by settlers. aftert reclaimed. Marion and Union streets, last night about 10 o'clock. ' Captain M. McGregor and Lieut. E. Seeley. officers of the Salvation Army, rhile going to their home from meet ing, about lv o clock last nignt rouna a man lying1 crosswise of the sidewalk, between O. G. Savage residence and that of Dr. L. A. Port. It was quite dark and the ladles were within a foot or two of the body when they discov ered it; This so frightened them that they both screamed and ran back to Mr. Savage's house and told him what tbey had found. Mr. Savage, taking a lamp, went out and found the man. to all appearances dead, and at once no tified Chief . W. W. Johnson of the fire iepartment. and also telephoned for Coroner D. p. Lane. - Mr. Johnson Went down to where the man; was lying and Dr. Lane arrived shortly afterwards. An examination was made and Dr. Lane said that the man had been dead less than an; hour. . Wise, who recently sent in his 'resignation aa a member of the Society and began to ad ertlse his bus iness, a violation of th. rules of the society. - The Portland7 Telegram, of last evening .In discusshSg a meeting of the society held in Portland on Friday, says: r . "Dr. W, A. Wis ia been expelled from membership In the Oregon State Dental Society because he has dared to advertise hls-profesisona business as a dentist. Inasmuch a he had some time ago went in his resignation to the soci ety, this will make no difference to him. "The Oregon. State Dental Society is an ethical organisa tion, j which forbids Its membersto do paid advertising, be iieving this would compromise their dignity or something of that sort.
