egon, was filed in the county recorder's
department yesterday. It bequeaths
to her daughter. Mabel McGrew, an 89
acre tract of land in the Alvis Smith
donation land claim situated in this

MeGrew Wilson, daughter; WM-i Me

ese patient escaped from the Insane
Asylum last evening, during the sun-.
per hour, and at last reports early this
morning he had not been apprehended,
lie was a very good patient and a good
worker, and was employed ;ln the cen
tral part of. the building. He never
expressed any-desire to .leave; the In
stitution, and It was thought that he
waa well content to remain there and
his flight was somewhat of. a surprise.
He was traced to the passenger depot,
where he had conversed with the Japan
ese section hands, but from there no
further trace could be found. He did
not leave on the overland last night,

be held in Portland, on Wednesday,
March 19th to nominate a state ticket.

of Oregon." is hereby called to meet in
the city of Portland, 'Oregon, on Wed
nesday, thex 19th day of March. 1902.
at the hour of 10 o'clock a. m, for the
purpose of nominating a state ticket
for the various offices to be filled at
the elections to be. held in this state
on the 2d day of June of this year; and
for the transaction of? other business
of Interest to the Socialist party of the

Socialists of the.. Second Congressional
district of Oregon. Is hereby called for
the purpose 'of making a nomination

mass conventions, for the purpose of

will place the county conventions ex
actly two weeks, earlier than the stale
convention, .thus affording opportunity
for Interchange of opinions, and mak
ing arrangements for) attending tti
state and Congressional convention!.
"Because .-of certain revisions ?h th
Australian ballot law, and because of
the further fact that the Socialist party
in this state. Is an entirely new party
in the eyes of the law, the method of
precinct election of delegates to coun
ty conventions, and delegates elected
from these bodies to the state conven
tion, canaot be employed In making
our nominations this spring. While tn
the principles advocated, the Social
Democratic party and the Socialist
party were the same, yet according to
the new law.; the Socialist party is a
new party, and can be represented on
the official ballot by either of the two
following methods:
"1. By calling a mass convention of
the electors' of any county.- district or
state. and if one hundred or more
electors meet In such -convention and
form an organized body.' they may
make the nominations and file them ac
cording to law without petition. '
"2. If the assembly Of electors num
ber less than one hundred, theynttiy

nominations by a petition equal to five
per "cent of "the entire vote of such

Woolen Mill Company, left last night
for Sah FranclscO to remain several
days In the Interest of the factory. Mr.
Kay remarked that the company had
recently .ordered a carload of machin
ery from :.an Eastern firm which will be
added jio. the already splendid and up-to-date
mechanical equipment of; the
plan in this city. The 4nachlnery Is
