Nyssa Gate City Journal - Nyssa, Oregon Thursday, December 29,1977 TVCC Offers Business, Secretarial Classes Treaaure Valley Com munity College will offer two busline»* and three secre tarial science classes winter quarter. All of the classes are offered evenings for the convenience of the adult population. Those interested in taking one of the classes may register during the first class meeting. The business classes are Heal Estate Law and Income Tas procedures. Ontario at torney, Douglas Combs, will teach the real estate class Wednesdays, beginning Ja nuary 4. All classes will be held in Room 21, Adminis tration Building, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Upon comple tion of the class, students will be able to discuss detailed aspects of ownership, use, and transferability of real estate. They will also develop a working knowledge of contracts, restrictions, and landlord rights. The three credit course is useful in preparing for the real estate licensing test. Richard Jackson, Payette CPA, will conduct a three- credit class in Income Tas Procedures beginning Mon day, January 9. The class will meet from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Room 21. Administration Building. The class will teach students how to correctly file personal income tai returns, prepare forms for small businesses or farm opera tions, and set up a record keeping system for tai purposes. Typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping will be offered for those interested in learn ing or improving secretarial skills. Typing meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Room 6, Admi nistration Building, begin ning January 5. Beginning students will be able to type 20 words per minute and the more advanced students will begin at more advanced levels. Al South will conduct a four-credit class in Bookkeep ing II. The class is open to those who have taken Book keeping I or who show pro ficiency. Students will dis cus* purchasing, sales, con signment sales, installment sales, inventory, and accrual accounting. The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Room 7, Administration Buil ding. The first class is scheduled for January 9. Two sections of Shorthand will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., beginning Ja nuary 9. In Shorthand (ABC). Dottie Schimmels will provide instruction in de veloping a minimum trans cription skill based on an alphabet shorthand. Short hand (Gregg/ABC Reviewl) will enable students to read and write shorthand at a minimum rate of 30 words per minute over a three- minute eiercise. The classes will meet in Rooms 5 and 6, respectively, Administration Building. On Christmas, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fritts enter tained Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fritts and Tami from Hermis ton, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hight also of Hermiston Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Heater from Boise, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Denning of Payette, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tuning. Christmas carolers stopped by the Lloyd Dibble home Thursday evening and took Sue along for more caroling Boise. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Pitman, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Pitman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kemet Pitman all of Boise, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenwood Robinson Jr. of Livermore, California, with a daughter and friend, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Chassee of Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Bishop and Gary from Ya kima. Washington, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Verl Bishop. Other Christmas guests were Mr. and Mrs. Will Bishop of Caldwell and Bill Bishop and Lynn and Lenore of Roswell. Wednesday of last week Don Holmes and Joyce Schroeder of Canby, Oregon visited with Steve Bishop. and a chili feed at the Kaptein home in Parma. Saturday visitors at the Dibbles included Cindy Reno and girls. Mrs. Velma Hig gins, and Rod and Marilyn Dakan. Mrs. Helen Wilson's dau ghter Marilu from Rupert is spending the week with her. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fergu son were pleased to receive a call from their son Col. Charles Ferguson from Eng land. C D Judd and Mrs. Dorothy Kinney from Nampa visited with the Fergusons on Saturday, and Helen Hatch of Ontario was a Christmas Eve and Day guest. Guests for Christmas at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Bay included their children Gary Bay of Reno, Mr. and • Mrs. Rick Fitzsimmons of Boise, and Deen? Bay of Twin Falls. Callers Christ mas week were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Watson and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Edgar. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boston had Christmas Dinner on Saturday with their son Mr. and Mrs. Don Boston of Seattle. Christmas Day they spent with Mr. and Mrs. Shippy and family in Weiser. On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boston had an early Christmas dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rogers at Nampa. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Mor rison had a busy Christmas with many of the family at home. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morrison and family from Fruitland, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Morrison and family from Parma, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Morrison and family from Seattle, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morrison and family from Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Morrison and family from Payette. Mr. and Mrs. Fiedel Soliz and family from Nyssa aNd Peggy Morrison from Nampa all joined in the fun. Lynn and Karyn Morrison left earlier in the week for their home in Salinas, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Rookstool were with the family for Christmas at Mr. and Mrs. Jim Edens'. Mrs. Yingling was a guest as well. Mike Eden* is home for the holidays from ISU. Mr. and Mrs. Foy Brown enjoyed Christmas with all their family. Also present Page Three ... were Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Fisher and family. Guests for Christmas eve of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Smalley included Mr. and Mrs. Bill Anders of Caldwell, and Mr. and Mrs. George Farrell of Madera, California. Mrs. Bartholomew of Ny ssa was a guest for Christ mas dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Engle- hardt. Apple Valley was sad dened this week by the passing of Mr. Jake Groot.
