HI YOU ALL Out There in Sport« Land, how’s it going*
Well Nyssa’s varsity team now has two league wins, after last
Friday nights game, when Nyssa took a 46-30 win from John
Day. The game score might look close but Nyssa had John
Day in the bag, once Nyssa started cooking. What 1 enjoyed
watching, was when Mike Johnson caught four interceptions,
that was pretty. Richard Fehlman also did a fine job with his
position of kicking and making one touchdown, not too bad.
But Art Bullock iced the cake when he let the whole team
play, thats the kind of game which makes the whole team feel
like they did it. Looks as if the season is closing in on the last
four games already, so if you haven't seen Nyssa play yet or
you would just enjoy a great game, you might think about
traveling to Madras tomorrow night, the game starts at 8 p.m.
Kind of looks like Nyssa's Volley Ball team is making the
other schools fight for every point. Nyssa might have lost
another one to Burns (2-0) but Miss Reece said “they had to
fight for every point they got.” In fact Nyssa played so well
Bums didn't substitute at all in fact they called a time out in
the second game when Lynelle Drake served four straight
go-getting points. Looks as if the kids are putting together a
strong ball team, looks as if a few teams better watch out.
Game scores Varsity (5-15), (5-15). JVB (11-15) (8-15) and
JVC (0-15) (4-15), Varsity scorers in the first game L. King 2.
S. Marcum l.T. Atagi 1 and D. Oldemeyer 1. Second game
scorers L. Drake 4 and S. Marcum 2.
Scores for the Junior High Vollev Ball team during Vallivue
9-22-77 7th grade 2-0. (15-11) (15-8); 8th grade 0-2, (2-15)
(6-15). Points made at Middleton's game 10-6-77 7th grade
1-2(14-16) (15-5) (10-15); 8th grade 1-2, (1-15), (15-8); (6-15).
Junior High football scores are 26-0 Nyssa's win against
Vallivue and a tie with Middleton 6-6. Today the team plays
Weiser on their own grid iron, 4 p.m.
Kind of looks like the gymnastics' team has a 4 way meet
October 13 at Mac Hi with Bend and Hermiston.
Well take care and see you next week BYE.
EVEN THE FRIENDS made it to the game Friday night. They
sat with the Erldene Johnson family and other friends they
met while in Nyssa, they enjoy a Nyssa 46-30 win over John
Day. ’ Great Hu.”

As the second quarter
began, Grant Union scored
on a 5 yd. run by Steve
Baack. followed by a missed
extra point. That knotted the
score at 6-6. After taking the
kickoff Nyssa drove from
their own 43 yd. line to score
on a 25 yd. run by Eric
Vanetti. Fehlman's kick was
good and Nyssa led once
again 13-6. After trading the
ball awhile, Nyssa got it back
and capitalized on another
opportunity as Kirt Michael
scored from 9 yds. out. The
point after failed and the half
was to end that way with
Nyssa in control 19-6.
The 3rd quarter was all
Bulldogs. Mike Johnson took
the first play from scrimmage
61 yds. for a TD. Fehlman's
kick was good and the score
was 26-6. Grant Union
couldn't go so Nyssa got the

but Nyssa had expanded
their lead to 32-6. Mike
Johnson got his 3rd inter
ception on his own 43 yd.
line. After a couple of
penalties. Kirt Michael broke
loose for 55 yds. to set up a 28
yd. TD by ERic Vanetti. Once
again, Richard Fehlman's
right foot put the ball
between the ‘posts' and the
lead was 39-6. After Jose
Delgado recovered a John
Day fumble on the 17 yd.
line, Ernie Delgado ran 18
yds. to paydirt only to have a
penalty nullify it.
In the fourth quarter.
Coach Bullock let as many
people play as possible. But
even then. John Day couldn't
get enough offense to beat
the Bulldogs. They tried, as
Mitch Gregg scored 2 TDs,
Mike Alley scored on a pass,
and they converted 3-2pt.
conversions. But Nyssa's
Mike Johnson captured his
fourth pass theft, and ran 10
yds. for his second TD of the
night.
When asked for comment
after a game like that. Art
Bullock replied. "Not too
bad!”
With over 500 yards of
total offense for the night. 1
would have to agree.

After a poor game at
Bums. September 29. Nyssa
High School's football Bull
dogs were out to recover from
that loss. And so it was as
Nyssa played host to the
Grant Union Prospectors.
Friday, October 7.
Action started rather slo
wly as neither team could
mount an offensive drive on
their first possession. After
recovering a Prospector fum
ble on the Prospector 42 yard
line. Nyssa failed to move the
ball and had to punt. Dan
Maxfield punted the bail out
of bounds on the 8 yd. line. A
couple of plays later, Mike
Johnson picked off the first of
four interceptions. Not long
after Jim Wilson hit Richard
Fehlman. tight end. with a
33 yd scoring pass. The point
after was no good and Nyssa
led 6-0. Fehlman kicked to
GU and then Mike Johnson
got his 2nd interception.
Then John Day had a change
of heart and intercepted Jim
Wilson John Day's 40 yd line.
The Prospectors closed out
the first qtr as Brad Smith
completed a 24 yd pass to
