Jaycees met Monday evening
at the hall to elect new
officers for the 1967-68 term.

director.
20 YEARS AGO
The Nyssa Eagles lodge
held its grand opening
Saturday evening with over
300 Eagles and auxiliary
members present, including
members
from
lodges
throughout the Northwest.
A buffet table, the work of
the Nyssa Auxiliary was open
and appreciated all through
the evening while dancers
crowded the floor.
The celebration instituted
the formal opening of the
new addition of the lodge
which was recently com
pleted.
Features include a new
lounge, large ballroom and
lodge hall.

Men who have been em
ployed by the government on
engineering and other work
connected with the Owyhee
project, have been making
plans to move to Caldwell
about June 1. Practically the
entire crew will move and will
work on the Homedale end of
the Owyhee Project. The only ,
men who will remain in'
Nyssa will be the main
tenance and operation men,
working under George Hay
cock.

Mrs. Leslie Smith and Mrs.
Myron Osborn hosted a
bridal shower at the Osborn
home Wednesday evening
for Carmen Astoreca. Forty
guests attended and Carmen
received many lovely gifts.
Mrs. Bill Toomb, Mrs.

Mabie Piercy had Sunday
dinner at the Country Kit

Rhodes and three children

the 25th wedding anniver
sary celebration for Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Tooley of
Parma Sunday. It was held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Rhodes in Parma,

and Mrs. Willard Wallace of
Payette; Mr. and Mrs. Rolla
Rhodes and daughter

Roswell; Mr. and Mrs. Art
Kellogg and son of Parma
and the three sons of Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Rhodes. Mrs.

anniversary cake.

visited Wayne Sparks, re
turning home on April 11.
They visited in Yakima.
Washington and Mrs. Piercy
talked to Mrs. C. W. Wilson
formerly of Adrian. They
stopped in Pendleton and
visited Hazel Piercy.

overnight guests of their
grandparents. Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Phifer.

day evening at the Gale

Chapin. Fonda Daugherty
was the hostess.
Mike and Mary Masy and
baby of Crescent City. Calif,
came Thursday evening to
the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Klaas Laan. They
left Saturday morning for
Baker to get some furniture
of his mothers to take back to
Crescent City.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Fox
were Sunday dinner guests of
her brother. Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Chamberlain in Nyssa.

been delayed. City Manager
E. K. Burton said.
A change in resident en
gineers is believed to have
delayed the start of the
project.

provement program to be

The Thursday Afternoon
Bridge Club was entertained
at the home of Mrs. Berniece
Fisher. Guests were Mrs. Joe
Cundall and Mrs. A. C.
Sallee. Winners were Mrs.
Bert Lienkaemper and Mrs.
Sallee.
The Owyhee Garden Club
will meet Saturday. April 23
at 9 a m. at the home of Mrs.
Kenneth Price. They will
then go to Silver City for a
picnic and outing.

STAR
Stardusters met at the
home of Nora Graham
Monday, April 11 with
Beatrice Grossnickle, vice-
president presiding. Ten
members answered roll call,
and Mrs. Bennett was a
guest.
A report was given on
bazaar items. The group
voted to purchase more
dishtowels. The meeting
closed and hostesses Kath
leen Wheeler and Nora
Graham served salad and
crackers. The next meeting
will be May 9.
Emblem Club
Activities
The new slate of officers
presided over the April 11,’
business meeting of Emblem
Club 192.
Junior Past President,
Caire Jenkins gave a report
of the achievements of the
past year. 1976-1977. It was
one to be proud of.
It was decided to have a
rummage sale and plans for
this will be made in the near
future.
An executive meeting will
be held for May 5, at 8 p.m.
All officers should be present
for this meeting.
The National Convention of
Elk and Emblem Clubs will
be held in Hawaii this year.
Plans are underway for those
who will attend from our
area.

Meet Monday
The Malheur County Hol
stein Club will meet at the
Twilight Cafe in Nyssa at 8
p.m.. Monday, April 25. All
members are urged to
attend.
The Adrian Garden Club
met Monday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Marie Moore in
Adrian. Mrs. Gertye Jones,
president, presided over the
meeting with ten ladies in
attendance. Mrs. Erma Hop
kins gave the secretary-trea
surers reports.
She also gave the lesson
on.
"Planting things that
grow in the shade." The club
presented Mrs. Marie Moore
with a red Peace Rose and set
it in the ground for her.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Vonccl
Seuell in Big Bend. The
lesson will be "How to get rid
of different kinds of garden
bugs.”

Garden Club at their meeting
Thursday at the home of Mrs.
Irl Nolen.
New officers have been
chosen for the club, as
follows: Mrs. John Stam,
president; Mrs. Chet Sage,
vice-president, and Mrs.
George Dohner, secretary.
The present treasurer still
has another year of her term
to fulfill, she is Mrs. Kenneth
Kerby.
All the local garden clubs
are to have booths at the
Malheur County Fair this
year, and exciting plans for a
booth were discussed. The
theme "The Good Life in the
Country," awakens many,
many ideas....
