decorated the Ontario Com­
munity Methodist Church for
the Sunday. September 5.

Eugene. Oregon and Jeff
Carlson of Clatskanie. Ore.
The pews were decorated
with mint green and yellow
bows.
Officiating at the 3:30 p.m.
double ring ceremony in the
presence of 200 guests was
the Rev. Eugene Sabin.
Forrest Grove. Oregon, uncle
of the groom, assisted by the
Rev. Mas Kawashima.
Parents of the bride are
Mr. and Mrs. Kayno Saito of
Nyssa and the groom's
parents, are Mr. and Mrs.
Willard Carlson of Clats-
kanine.
Soloists were Reid Saito,
brother of the bride who
accompanied himself on the
guitar; and the Rev. Mas
Kawashima. accompanied by
Mrs. Hope Kawashima.
The bride, given in mar­
riage by her father wore a
floor-length gown fashioned
of mira-mist chiffon and
accented with embroidered
Alencon lace. The gown was
styled with an empire waist­
line. high illusion neckline,
bishop sleeves and a sweep­
ing Watteau back, falling into
a medium-length chapel train
Hand sewn
seed pearls
enhanced the bodice. Her
finger-tip veil was held to a
bandeau of pearls. She
carried a cascade of green
orchids with yellow throat,
stephanotis and yellow roses.

Francisco, sister of the bride.
She wore a floor length gown
of mint green taffeta over
polyester sheer with floral
flocking. Her headpiece was
a band of lilies of the valley
with ribbon streamers. She
carried a nosegay of white
daisies.
Bridesmaids were Mrs.
David Inada. Richmond. Cali­
fornia. sister of the bride.
Mrs. Doug Des Rochers. and
Miss Susan Van Lorn, both of
Portland. The attendants
were similarly attired in
yellow gowns and headpieces
to that of the matron of honor
and they carried nosegays of
yellow daisies. All the gowns
were fashioned by Mrs. Hiro
Kido.
Flower girl was Kristin
Sabin, cousin of the groom.
Forrest Grove. Her gown was
identical to those of the
bridesmaids. She carried a
basket of yellow rose petals
Ringbearers were Mattie
Saito, cousin of the bride.
Nyssa. Candlelighters were
David Miller. Clatskanie and
Ron Sabin. Tacoma.
Bestman was Bruce Gutge-
sell. Longview. Washington.
Ushering the guests were
Ron Sabin, cousin of the
bride. Tacoma. David Miller.
Clatskanie and Reid Saito.
Nyssa.
A reception followed the
ceremony at the Eastside
Cafe. Mr. Joe Saito was
master of ceremonies and
entertainment was provided
by Misses Jeanine Saito and
Kathy Kato. Portland.
The bride was graduated
from the Nyssa High School,
attended the University of
Oregon and Memt Davis
Business College in Eugene.
Her husband is attending the
University of Oregon.

The regular meeting of
Oregon Trail Grange was
called to order by Master
Harold Kurts Thursday eve­
ning. September lb.
Agriculture Chairman Er­
nie Metcalf reported on a
speech by Earl Butts to
potato growers about the
problem of "Creeping
Asphalt." CWA Chairman
Lois Boenig reported that the
first Club meeting would be
held at the home of Mildred
Sisson Tuesday. Octobers, at
2 pm. with Jackie Sisson as
co-hostess. Election of club
officers will be held.
During the
Lecturer’s
program. Sadie Metcalf re­
layed a message from Na­
tional Lecturer Kermit Ri­
chardson encouraging every­
one to vote in the coming
election.
Oregon
Trail
Grange members were asked
to remind each person to
vote.
Mr. and Mrs. George
Fanning were welcomed as
new members.
Refreshments were served
by tlie Ralph Thomas and
Carl Linegar couples. The
next regular meeting will be
held Thursday evening. Oc­
tober 7. fall starting time 8
p.m. Election of officers will
be held. All grange members
are urged to attend.

Mrs. Virginia Bybee ac-

Owen Froerer and family to
Ilwaco. Washington where
they went salmon fishing
earlier this month. They
reported a good catch of
salmon.

Raymond Wiley has finished
working for the forest service
in John Day and has returned
home. He will start his
sophomore year at TVCC this

The American Legion and
Auxiliary enjoyed a potluck
dinner September 16 at the
Eagles Hall.
Sally Looney and Beth
Calhoun delegates to Girls
State gave a report on their
stay and trip to this event.
Also reporting on Boys State
were delegates Bill Tensen
and Dustin Kassman. These
delegates are choaen by the
Legion and Auxiliary each
year with the Legion and
Auxiliary as their sponsors.
The next meeting will be
held October 7 with a potluck
at the Eagles Hall at 7 p.m.
The young couple is
making their first home in
Eugene.

Pearl and Otis Bullard
returned home Sunday from
an extended trip to the
middle west. They went with
Whitey and Eva Pedersen of
Vancouver, Washington.
Whitey is a counsin of Otis'.
From here they went to
Burwell. Nebraska, to be at
the annual reunion dinner of
the Bullard and Bohy families
They stayed ten days with Al
and Erma Bohy. visiting old
friends and relatives.

Nevada was a guest in the
Don Hawkins home at the
Arrowhead Motel this week.
She was visiting her college
roommate Debbie Hawkins
After a three-day visit, she
and Debbie journeyed on to
Salt Lake City, where they
attend the University of
Utah. The Hawkins' recently
moved from Winnemucca.

Gregory. South Dakota to
visit the McIntyre families,
who are cousins to the
Bullards. They went on h>

nie and Roy, who used to run
the Co-op in Ontario about 35
years ago. They left the
Bohvs there and went on to
Minnesota to visit more
relatives. While there they
saw the Quarry where the
Indians used to quarry stone
for their peace pipes in long
ago times.

They went through North
Dakota on to Montana As
they drove through North
Dakota, they saw field after
field of sunflowers
They
stopped to examine them
They were about four feet
high and the bloom was only
about the size of a saucer
Upon inquiry, they learned
they are grown for oil and
sunflower seed you find
packaged, ready-to-eat
in
the stores. The sunflowers
are combined, like grain.

Franklin and Chris Johnson
of Big Bear Lake. California.
They left the area Tuesday
after spending ten days with
friends and relatives.

where he was born and
raised, so then- was much
visiting. When they went
through Lewistown, they
contacted Joyce Haney, who
is attending the Montana
School of the Bible,
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Stunz
returned home Sunday after
visiting their daughter. Mrs.
Greta Bleakman and family
in Portland for one week. The
Stunz' spent the summer at
their cabin in McCall and are
now at home in Nyssa.

Club met Friday afternoon
with Bernice Toomb in
Kingman Kolony.

They went to Powell.
Wyoming where they visited
cousins of Pearl Bullard
Then on through the Yellow
stone, Rigby, Idaho and
home They were amazed at
the destruction In the Teton
Valley, still to be seen.
In Powell. Wyoming. Pearl
sprained her ankle, so she is
still, not walking on it.
MR. AND MRS. ED LARSSON were honored at an open
house held last Saturday at the home of Mr and Mrs. Larry
Larsson. The couple was married Saturday. August 28. at the

The Nyssa Senior Citizens
will continue their rummage
sale for the next two or three
weekends weather permit
ting. The sale is held each
Friday and Saturday, 213
Reece Avenue starting at
9:30 a m.
As a fall special, patrons
may now pick out a large
grocery sack full of things for
$1.00. A few of the nicer
items will be excluded in this
special.
The proceeds from this
sale, which is an annual
project of the Senior Citizens,
go into the treasury and help
finance the clubhouse and
projects during the winter
This is a community service
project.
A supervisor

for the
Beech Aircraft Corporation
will be the speaker at the
next meeting of the Knife A
Fork Club to be held
Wednesday. September 29 at
"’•JO p.m. at the l ast Side
Cafe in Ontario.
The speaker is Ron Cook,
who is on loan from Beech,
and who has made more than
150 speeches last year, plus
almost a hundred more
appearances on radio and
television. Cook tells of the
many benefits of the space
program, and at a exist of less
than two cents on every tax
dollar.
