Tuesday night the cornpick ing machine waa going it’s way, untiringly picking com aa it went. But the men running it and working on it were tired Howard Nevill had put in many a day on the picker and had taught three sons the ways of safety. But one little slip that night and hia foot waa caught, ruthlessly da­ maged by the machine Today he is in Holy Rosary Hospital while his sons, Leland and Mark, carry on the farm work, ironically enough. Mr. Nevill was on vacation from his job with the Fruitland highway depart­ ment. and was just helping out when the accident oc­ curred. Present reports on Mr. Nevill are encouraging, ac­ cording to his wife. She states that the doctor tells her no amputation will be re­ quired. although further sur­ gery will be needed Visiting the Fischers thia week were Mr. and Mrs. John DeAngelis and Ronald. Michael and Usa from San Carlos, California. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Powers are newly returned from a three-month’s jaunt to Ha­ waii on their bee-keeping, honey-gathering business. Their son, Garnet, also has come home from the same kind of work, the last location being Bismarck. North Da­ kota Also home for a week's visit is their daughter. Morgan She attend» the University of Idaho at Mos­ cow. majoring in art. Guests in the Power's home for a few day's visit are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Weaver from Nava Sots, Texas. Another recent visitor was Binford Weaver. The Wea­ vers are also in the bee and honey business Mrs. Cecil Evans returned this week from a nearly four week visit in Kermin, California, where »he »tayed with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Schubert during her daugh­ ter's surgery and recou- peration. Cecil Evans went to Cali­ fornia and brought hia wife home. During the trip back the>- visited their daughter and family, the Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Cairnes at Eugene. Oregon and their eon and family, the Rev. and Mrs. Karl Evans. -------------— — The first Candy Striper meeting will be Tuesday, September 14 after school in the Hospital dining room. All girls and boys 14 years and older are eligible to be “Teen Age Hospital Volun­ teers" or candy Stripers." They are required to participate in an orientation program before having any duties. Other instruction is given at the monthly meet­ ings. This volunteer service is a needed one in the hospital and nursing home and not only will give anyone consi­ dering a career in a medical field a chance to sample the work but is a valued experience for the Candy Striper. Bratton quoted one of several statutes that gives them the right to enter any assessor’s office at any time and examine his wort to see if he is in accordance with law. This year’s budget de­ mands from taxing districts such ss schools, cities, county, roads and others will be over eight millidn dollars. It is the assessor’s job to see that the appraisals and assessments within these taxing districts are fair and uniform according to law.
