Engagement Announced
MRS. LAWANNA WINTERS of Pocatello. Idaho is
announcing the engagement and forthcoming marriage of her
daughter. Jeraldene K. Winters, to Harold (Hal) Brendle. son
^f foe late Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Brendle of Nyssa, Oregon.
The wedding will take place Friday. July 30 in the Idaho
Falls Temple. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Miss Winters is a graduate of Pocatello High School and
Ricks College. She will graduate from Brigham young
University in December 1976 with a B.S. in University
Studies.
Mr. Brendle is a graduate of Nyssa High School and «rill
graduate from Brigham Young University in December 1976
with a B.S. in Business Management.

except for a few months when
her now deceased husband.
Dwight, was transferred to
the Boise-Payette Lumber
Company in Caidwell. They
then were transferred back to
Nyssa and she is still living in
their original home.
Her sisters. Mrs. Amy
Stradley, Mrs. Elsie Diven.
Mrs. Agnes Coffman all of
Nyssa and Mrs. Cassie
Goshert of Boise helped Mrs.
Smith celebrate her special
day. Another sister. Mrs. Ike
Robertson, of Nyssa was
unable to attend. A brother
John Ray of New Plymouth,
several nieces and nephews
and other relatives helped
make the 80th birthday of
Mrs Gertie Smith a most
enjoyable and pleasant day.
Mrs. Smith who was bom
Nyssa and lived here
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ten­
nant. LeAnn and Scott from
Denver. Colorado, visited
several days last week at the
home of her parents. Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Penrod. They all
went camping at Mormon
Basin for a few days. The
Tennants returned to their
home on Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gonyer
received a phone call Wed­
nesday. June 23, that ter
brother Donald Rehorst pas­
sed away following a massive
stroke. He was a resident of
St. Onge. South Dakota, and
had visited in Nysaa several
times.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Riggs
visited at the home of their
daughter and son-in-law and
family near Kuna last Friday.
They also visited Mrs. Fred
Trost and Jeff Haney, who
are patients at Mercy Medi­
cal Center in Nampa. Jeff is
the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Roger Haney of Nyssa.

Houseguests for a few days
last week at the home of Mrs.
Lucile Myrick and Shelley
were Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Kerin of Melbourne, Aus­
tralia. They are friends of
Mrs. Myrick's son and
daughter-in-law. Mr. and
Mrs
Russell Myrick and
teach at the same school in
Melbourne. They are on a
year-long world tour and
stopped in Nyssa to meet the
Myricks.
Shelley took them to
McCall and Bill Tensen took
them water skiing at Owyhee
Dam. They spent the week­
end with the Rod Holcombs
at their cabin on Lake
Owyhee and did some more
water skiing.

Brian and Mike Bauer,
twin grandsons of Mrs. R. G.
Larson are now visiting their
grandmother and will spend
one month with her. They are
the sons of Mr. and Mrs.
George Bauer of Kennrwick.
Washington. Another grand­
son. Jim Larson of Nampa, is
visiting with his grandmother
and cousins this week. He is
the sori of Mr and Mrs
Raymond Larson of Nampa.

The Senior Citizens held
their Bicentennial meeting
and program at the United
Methodist Church June 23.
The meeting was opened
with a salute to the American
Flag led by Orma Cleaver,
president. Roll call was
answered by 39 members and
there were 12 visitors.
The minutes and trea­
surers reports were given
and accepted. The bills were
allowed. There was no new or
old business. Orma Cleaver
announced her resignation
from the Malheur County
Ageing Council.
The Bicentennial celebra­
tion was very successful.
Performances were given by
the Ontario recreation dan­
cers. a Bicentennial reading
by Dale Witt, an orchestra
presentation from Parma.
Ruth Klinkenberg soloist and
group singing was all much
enjoyed. The delicious pot­
luck dinner was served to 63
persons.
Four persons. Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond Sager and
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Evans
acquired membership with
the Nyssa Senior Citizens at
this meeting.
Gertie Smith Honored
On 80th Birthday
Mrs. Gertie Smith was
honored on her 80th birthday
with a surprise open house
reception at
her home
Sunday afternoon. Her son
and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. John J. Smith and
her two granddaughters,
Mrs. Shirley Crockett and
Mrs. Susan Klahr all of
Caldwell hosted the event.
Many friends and relatives
were in attendance and Mrs.
Smith received
beautiful
cards, flowers and several
telephone calls.
A large beautiful bouquet
of pink and white flowers
were centered on the table
with small matching bou­
quets and tapers on each
side. The traditional birthday
cake was also pink and white.

Cleaver) held a reunion
Sunday at the Cow Hollow
ball park. There were 76
family members in attend­
ance and this is the first
family reunion held since
1968.

fourteen family members.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cleaver,

and Lori; Mr. and Mrs.

members; Mr. and Mrs.
LaVern Cleaver and six

brother. Mr. and Mrs. John

sister Mrs. Elliott to Nyssa
for the reunion. She is now
visiting in the homes of her
brothers and sister-in-laws
and will return home with her

Methodist Church in Fruit­
land.

70th anniversary. Raymond's

joyable with a potluck dinner
and visiting many friends and
relatives.

Sunnyvale. Calif., arrived
by plane Wednesday 'and will
be spending the summer with
their grandparents. Mr. and

afternoon. June 28 to a small
