LEGION AUXILIARY
The Past Presidents of the
American Legion Auxiliary
met at the home of Mrs. Joe
Maughn. Monday, March I.
The ladies made forty
paper flowers to be used in
the Veteran's Wheel Chair
Parade in Portland later this
summer.
Plans were discussed con­
cerning the Bicentennial and
Legion birthday potluck din­
ner which will be held March
IS.
The nest meeting will be at
the home of Mrs Otis Smith
on April 5. Refreshments
were served by the hostess.

returned recently from a
Caribbean Cruise.
They went directly from
Salt lake City by plane to San
Juan. Puerto R ko Following
a tour of San Juan, they
boarded the ship AMERI
KANIS and sailed to several
port* of call.
The first stop was the
Dutch island Curacao, which
ha* one ok the largest oil
refineries in the world and is
famous for it* pontoon
bridge Then on to Caracas.
Venezuela where thev rode a
cable car and went to many
points of interest including
the gold market and into the
mountains to a glass factory.
The nest stop was Grenada,
the spice island. There are
manv different spices grown
on this island, mainly nutmeg
Guadalupe, a French is­
land. is called the butterfly
island because of its unique
shape The main product of
this island is sugar cane.
St. Thomas of the Virgin
Islands was the last port and
is known for its duty free
shipping
All of the islands have
beautiful beaches, flowers,
bananas, coconuts and warm
temperatures, ranging from
70 degrees to SO degrees with
the sea temperature usually
in the high 70's.

a painful injury last week
when she stepped on a nail.

Roger Smith home Thursday
afternoon.

Nyssa Thursday morning for
the Home Extension Study
group lesson "Over the
Counter Drugs." They will
give the lesson later at
regular Extension meeting.

The Malheur Community Concert Association will present
Mezzosoprana. Marvellee Cariaga. in concert on Thursday,
March 4 at 8:15 p.m. in the Ontario High Auditorium. An
artist of abundant natural talent and exquisite charm. Miss
Cariaga has sung dozens of opera and musical roles
including: Mother Abbess in "The Sound of Music." Carmen
in "Carmen." Nettie in “Carousel," the Mother in "Amahl
and the Night Visitors" and Fricka in "Das Rheingold and
Die Walkuere," to mention only a few.
Hiring of Illegal

The Labor Department
announced today it has won a
court order barring an
Oregon farm labor contractor
from hiring illegal aliens.
U. S. District Judge Robert
Belloni issued the permanent
injunction against Alvin N.
Luttrell, doing business as
Northwest Harvesters. Lut­
trell agreed to the entry of
the judgement without con­
test.
In addition. Luttrell was
enjoined for violating the
vehicle safety and payroll
record keeping provisions of
the Farm Labor Contractor
Registration Act.
The Labor Department's
investigation against Luttrell
was directed by Donald W
Henry, area director in
Portland for the Wage-Hour
Division. Employment Stan­
dards Administration.
