Meeting In
Portland
The Agrt Business Council
of Oregon will hold its annual
meeting at Portland's Me­
morial Coliseum. January 29
in the Pope A Talbot Room.
The general session starts at
9 a.tn. and concludes with a
luncheon at noon.
Perry Ellsworth. Executive
Vice President of the Na­
tional Council of Agricultural
Employees. Washington. D.
C.. is the featured speaker
He will discuss factors
affecting the supply of farm
labor.
Joe Klupenger. ABC Preu
dent, observed that this
year's meeting marks the
tenth year of progressively
closer ties between business
and agriculture in Oregon.
"The value of agriculture
in Oregon will continue to be
the central theme tn public
relations efforts of the
Agri-Business Council of
Oregon.*' Klupenger said.
The meeting will also
include election of 1976
officers and a new slate of
directors wiR be announced
A Food and Meat Handling
Workshop has been set up as
a result of joint planning by
the Oregon Slate Agricultural
Department. Malheur Cou­
nty Extension Service, Mal­
heur County Sanitation De­
partment and Treasure Val­
ley Community College. A
community service activity is
set for Monday. January 26,
at the college^ Weese Me
mortal Building to begin at 7
p m The program is an out­
growth of interest expressed
in how retail meat handlers,
restaurants, bakeries, and
school lunch programs might
do a better job and might be
informed of recently enacted
laws governing inspections.
The program, at no coat to
participants, will include the
following:
Basic Cleanliness will be
presented by Dr. Bill David­
son. Oregon State University
Food Technologist, who will
among other things present a
film package entitled "The
Spoilers ." He will also touch
upon refrigeration as part of
his presentation
Representing the Oregon
State Department of Agricul­
ture will be Joel Gray and
Carrol Farmer who will
explain laws governing the
handling of —at and what
the inspector looks for when
he visits a retail outlet or
bakery
The third pan of the
session will be a presentation
by Ray Huff. Malheur County
Sanitarian, who will explain
laws governing the res*
taurants and school lunch
programs as well aa bac­
teriology as it affects the
businesses. Growth rates and
media in which bacteria grow
will also be discussed
