Hartley Qualifies For
Overseas Mat Team
THE NYSSA SWIMMING POOL IS OPEN,
with a crew of six lifeguards: (L ■ R) Kevin
Engstrom, Carlon Taylor. John Wahlert,
Kathy Bass. Vernon Lords, poolmanager,
and David Simantel.
Swimming lessons will begin Monday,
June 16. Students should sign up for classes
on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the pool
during open hours.

Nyssa and the local area are
invited to participate.
Entries will be accepted in
person, or by telephone
through 5 p.m. on July J,
1975
Games will be scheduled
by a horseshoe committee
appointed by the Chy Ma­
nager. with all games played
at the Chy horseshoe pits at
Lions Park
"There is no entry fee for
participants,” Chy Manager
Schneider announced. "How
ever, we will observe entry
deadlines and age limits.
Trophies will again be
awarded upon conclusion of
tournament play. We're look­
ing for a fine turnout and
some interesting games."
The Nysaa Cubs Babe Ruth
team split in their games
They beat New Plymouth last
Friday 15 to 5 behind the
pitching of Jim Wilson1 who
struck out 4 and walked 4
allowing 5 runs on t hits.
Wilson also helped 'when he
went 3 for 3 at the plate
scoring 4 runs.

The Cubs also lost to Vale
Tuesday. June 10 when they
hosted the Vale Babe Ruth
team. The score was 8 to 1
but it was a very close game
until the 7th inning when
Vale scored 6 after scoring I
in the 1st and I in the 3rd
inning. Nyssa scored their
lone run when Ernie Delgado
got a single thru the middle,
stole second and went to
third drawing a throw that
went thru 3rd bases legs and
Delgado came on in the score
Nyssa's only run.

The Nyssa Majors are un­
defeated this year so fat in
five games.
They defeated Vale in their
first game of the season 11 to
3 then went on to beat Weiser
16 to 11; Payette ■ 18 to 5;
Fruitland 4to 2 and New
Plymouth 9 to 3.

Legion Team
ine Ontario American
Legion hosted the Caidwell
Legion team Thursday, June
5 at Ontario and won the
game 8 to 4.
Ontario scored 2 runs in
the first when Stu Ward got a
hit. Ted Joyce walked setting
it up for brother Joe who
smashed a double to left field
and brought in both Ward
and Ted Joyce.
Ontario alsd scored 2 runs
in the second when Bill
Marcum got a hit down third
base line then Chris Wey­
mouth hit a home run over
the left field fence to score
Marcum ahead of him.
Ted Joyce scored again in
the third when he
got a
double and scored on a hit by
Joey Plaza.
Ontario
scored 2 more
runs in the 4th inning and the
final run in the Sth when Bill
Marcum walked, stole second
and scored on a hit by Brad
Holcomb.
Caldwell scored 2 runs in
the 3rd and one each in the
4th and 7th innings to end the
game.

The Ontario Stars Ameri­
can Legion team beat the
Vale Legion team 6 to 2
behind the pitching of Ted
Joyce, who went the distance
for Ontario setting down 5 by
the strike-out route, walked 2
and allowed only 4 hits.
Ontario scored in the first
inning when Stu Ward and
Tony Roberts got on base on
errors and Ted Joyce hit to
two weeks, starting July 15,
at Mansi High School in Eu­
gene. Dr. Dale Thomas, who
is the wrestling coach at the
Oregon State University, will
be in charge of the camp. He
will be assisted by Don
Hedgepeth of Tigard and
Jack Olsen of Marist.
Chris Lords, another Nyssa
wrestler, entered in compe­
tition in the 154 pound weight
division. Chris beat Areyna
of Eagle Point by an 8-2 score
and decisioned Leavitt of
Salem, 9-1. He was then
beaten by Ron Ziebart of
McNary. 8-6. Ziebart went on
to win the Challengers
Tournament but was later
defeated.

Rodeo At Bums
"The Oregon High School
Championship Rodeo la ail
set for Borns, Oregon.**
The 6th annual Oregon
High School Championship
Rodeo will be held in Bums.
Oregon the last weekend in
June. Two evening perfor­
mances are scheduled on
June 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m.,
with afternoon performances
on Saturday and Sunday, the
28 and 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the
Harney County Fairground
Arena.
Some
300
contestants
participated in this rodeo last
year and more are expected
this year. 13 rodeo events will
be featured, plus the World
Championship Buffalo Riding
Contest and the Oregon High
School Rodeo Queen Contest.
Winners will be represen
ting Oregon in the National
High School Rodeo in Gallup.
New Mexico in August. The
Bums Elks Lodge is once
again sponsoring this years
event and invites everyone to
attend one or all of the June
26. 27. 28 and 29 Shows.

Sam Hartley, who entered
the Qualifying Wrestling
Tournament in Tigard this
past weekend, came home a
qualified member of the
Oregon Cultural Exchange
Team. The team will travel to
Japan or New Zealand later
this summer.
The young IO5'/i pound
wrestler won the Challengers
Tournament by a 12-5 de­
cision over Herada. He then
decisioned Stewart of Pen­
dleton, 5-4. In the Oregon
Cultural Exchange Finals
Sam took a 6-3 decision and a
5-4 score over Keith Ohta. of
Molalla.
Sam will participate in the
wrestlers training camp for
will admit the student and
spouse to any five project
classes of his choice.
Since a minimum of ten
people must participate, stu­
dents should preregister by
5:00 p.m., Tuesday. June 17,
at the Treasure Valley
Community College Com­

Robert Jackson. Marcia and
Brett of Bend. Oregon came
Wednesday to visit with her
parents. Mr. and Mrs.
Dwight Seward and other
relatives. Mr. Jackson will be
here Tuesday and they will
go to Glenns Ferry to visit
other relatives before going
home.

Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Seward
The Nyssa Swim Team had
its first day of practice June 9
at the city pool, at their
regular times. 10:30 a.m. and
5:15 p.m. The team's first
meet will be on Thursday at
the Payette pool, where five
relay events will be held for
each age group.
"The practice went very
well for the first day.” says
the Nyssa coach. Judy Boyd,
"and the more swimmers we
can get. the better.” Miss
Boyd expects to have a very
good season and says that
anyone wishing to join the
team should come to practice
at 10:30 or 5:15, or contact
her at 889 8700.

reunion for about 29 mem­
bers of the family on
Saturday for a delicious
picnic dinner in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. Boyd Bower of
Manti. Utah,who came to get
their daughters who had
been visiting here several
weeks.
On Friday evening. Paul
Seward, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leroy Seward graduated
from high school from Boise
Christian Day School. After
the graduation exercises,
about 50 members of the

at the Church
Social Hall on Thursday
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. L. Clay have
sold their farm and moved
into a trailer home on the
Campbell place. Mr. and
Mrs. W. C. Warren and
family, who bought the Clay
farm are mving in this week.
Mrs. Gene Honey visited
Wednesday thru Friday in
Payette last week with Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Bowen.

to end the game 6 to 2.
