Bulldogs Split Pair
With Vale Vikings

The Nyssa Bulldogs tra­
veled to Vale April 30 and
came home with a split to
deadlock the Greater Oregon
Eastern Div. League at 4
wins 2 losses each.
In the opening game Ted
Joyce took mound duties and
went the distance, holding
Vale to 4 runs on 5 hits while
his team mates came up with
0 runs to beat the Vikings
6-4.
The Vikings tumped into
the lead in the second inning
with the first score then came
back with another in the third
inning but in the fourth
inning the Bulldogs came
back with Neal Oldemever
leading off with a walk, stole
second and sent to third on a
wild pitch, then Joe Joyce
singled driving in Oldemever
for the first Nyssa score, fed
Joyce then got on base on a
fielders choice, followed by
Chris Lords, who reached
base on an error. Holcomb
walked Ted Joyce crossed the
home plate on an error then
Larry Haney got a hit scoring
Lords to end the scoring in
the fourth with Nvssa leading
3 to 2.
The Vikings got
Joe
Garland on with a hit-pitch
and the Rick Bates homered
to score 2 but that ending the
scoring for Vale.
The Bulldogs came up with
3 more runs in the Sth by
Oldemever scampered to first
base on an error by the first
baseman then back to back
singles by the Joyce Brothers
Joe and Ted. Lords reached

Joyce and Ted scored on a
Larry Haney out and that
completed the scoring with
both pitchers setting down
the remaining innings.
The second game began
with Bill Marcum on the
mound, but Vale got to him
fast and they scored 9 runs.
Brad Holcomb relieved Mar­
cum but Vale had their
momentum going and con­
tinued to score 4 more runs in
the fourth while holding
Nvssa to No-score.
In the Sth inning Nyssa got
on the scoreboard with Calvin
Cleaver walked. Paul Short
got a clean hit then Bill
Marcum got a hit to load the
bases. Neal Oldemever got a
blooper single that scored 2
runs. Ted Joyce blasted
another hit to score Marcum
and Oldemeyr. Joe Joyce.
Chris Lords both walked to
load the bases again, but
they could capitalize on it and
the game was over IS to 4.

At Sub-District
Five Nyssa Tennis team
members traveled with their
coach to Pendleton on Friday
to participate in the Sub
District Tournament with the
winners advancing to District
at Hermiston.
Those attending were Ter­
ry Baker, boys singles; Kathy
Kurtz. Anna Dority. girls
doubles; John Kouns. Randy
Savage in bovs doubles.
All from Nyssa got a first
round bye so they didn't play
until the second round.

trophies after battling the Baker Girls team for them at the
Tournament Sunday.
BOYS ON THE NYSSA JUNIOR BOWLING team are left to
right. Bill Marcum. Pete Leseberg. Troy Calhoun, and Larry
Haney. They proudly display their championship trophies
won at the Baker Tournament Sunday.

Come Home Champions
The Nyssa Jr Boys and
Girls high school traveling
bowling teams traveled to
Baker Sunday for the final
day of league bowling and
both teams came back with
Championships
The Inter Mountain Tra
veling League consisted of
boys and girl teams from
Nyssa. Ontario. Baker, La
Grande,
Hermiston and
Boise.
Going into Sunday's finals
the Nyssa boys were leading
by two games and they won
their championship in the
first series against Ontario.
The Nyssa girls were tied
with Baker girls and after the
first series they had to play
each other for the champion
ship and the Nyssa girls won
total pins 2227 while Baker
had only 2097.
Members of the boys team
were: Bill Marcum. Larry
Haney. Troy Calhoun. Pete
Leseberg and John Lopez and
members of the girls team
were: Sara Marcum. Shelley
Myrick. Joyce Haney and
Cheryl Pounds.

Immediately following the
bowling all members of the
league went to the Baker
Grizzly Bear and had a Pizza
party where the trophies
were presented.
Adults accompanying the
bowlers to Baker were Mr.
and Mrs Bill Purcell; Mr
and Mrs. Dale Haney and
Kenny; Mrs Lucile Myrick
and Mr and Mrs. Glenn
Marcum.
The final results were
received by the Oregon State
Junior Bowling Tournament
and Bill Marcum placed 13th
in singles and Bill and Pete
Leseberg placed 16th in
doubles.
