Your County Agent Says •
We are nearing the time of
year when root crops such as
beets, carrots, turnips and
winter radishes should be put
in storage. These crops
withstand autumn frosts and
are better off in the garden
until nights are cold enough
for proper storage.
Vegetables should be put
in storage soon after digging
to prevent them from drying
out. Tops should be cut off
about 1/2 inch above the
crowns. The roots can be
washed to remove surplus
dirt but should be dry when
placed in storage.
Root crops keep best
between 32 and 40 degrees F.
They require high humidity
to prevent shrivelling. Con
tinued storage at 45 degrees
and above causes them to
sprout new tops and become
wixidy
These crops keep their
crispness longer when bed

peat, or sphagnum moss.
However, polyethylene hags

Coach Art Bullock, in
recapping his winning 6-3
season, said that "We
started slowly and continued
to improve during the season
right up to the last game. As
coaches, that is something
we arc always looking for;
continued improvement
These ball players were
never "out" of anv game this
year, and the team effort and
closeness speaks for the
tenacity of theve boys. No

these young men gave of
