Last week I deplored the man
ner in which the citizens on the
United States seemed to take a
great delight in putting our
selves down. We have the finest
nation in the world yet most of
us continually bellyache. So 1
hope that you'll be patient with
a little bit of my own griping.
We have been told again and
again that th»- high cost of food
is primarily due to a shortage
of feed grain. This shortage was
caused by a sale of wheat to
Russia. Something doesn't jell.
I remember seeing row after
row of ships being used as sto-
rage bins for surplus grain,
This was several years ago.
Since that time we have been
continually told about having a
In fact we have so
surplus,
much grain that we must take
fields out of production and pay
farmers for the grain they don’t
raise. Now, if year after year
we have a surplus and are
NEVER able to use all of our
production, how come we have a
shortage
when we sell our
perennial surplus? Some how,
some where 1 have the feeling
of being taken by someone.
IF we had or have a surplus
I wouldn’t mind in the least if we
SOLD it to other nations FOR
CASH, but we don’t. We too
often give it away to keep some
one from starving. This is a
most admirable trait for a na
tion to have but nobody has yet
explained to me where our food
will come from if we get hun
gry.
Other nations seem real plea
sed to join into the game called
"Kick
Uncle Sam’s Dollar
Around.” We have sent so many
dollars overseas in a foreign
aid program that our own dollar
is in bad shape. Every nation
that we helped to get on their
feet seem determined to push
us off of ours. I have always
been the advocate that charity
begins at home, and if we have
enough cash to sprinkle it all
over the world we could stand
a tax reduction. The point is
we actually haven’t the sur
plus cash to do anything with.
We’re horribly in debt and I
notice where we passed another
Billion dollar FOREIGN aid bill.
We must
be nuts. If any
body tried to run a business the
way our government does we’d
get thrown in jail for perpi-
tratinz a fraud.
