BILL McMILLEN TOOK A CUT at this pitch during the Minors
Baseball Tournament
held in Nyssa, Friday, July 13, but it
was to no avail for his team as Nyssa fell to Vale 10 to 1
in a game for third place.
Pioneer defeated Ontario in the finals game by a score of
21 to 2, so Pioneer came away with first place and Ontario
got second.

Qualify For Nationals
It was Malheur County’s year
at the Oregon HighSchool Rodeo
Championship Finals held re­
cently in Burns. With the ex­
ception of Baker, which includes
contestants from Haines and
Halfway, this county will be
PICNIC TO HONOR
BASEBALL FOR KIDS
A potluck picnic supper will
be held Tuesday, July 24 at
7 p.m. in the South City Park
honoring all boys who partici­
pated in the Baseball F or Kids
program.
These include the
Pee Wees, Minors, Majors and
Babe Ruth Leagues.
All parents, members of the
Nyssa Sports Boosters Club
and fans are invited to come
and bring a covered dish and
eating utensils. The Booster
Club will furnish the drinks
and ice cream.
TVCC Sports Program
To Start Bowling
The bowling section of the
TVCC
summer
recreation
program gets underway next
Monday, July 23. The bowling
instruction will be handled by
t' e staff at the Sugar Bowl.
All children age 8-14 are eli­
gible to participate but they
must register before hand by
calling Jim Johnson at 372-
2454. The cost for bowling will
be $4.00 which includes shoes,
ball, and the bowling.
The recreation program at
this time consists of softball
for the rest of the week and
also next week. Softball will
end July 27 and golf will start
July 30. These two sections take
place in the mornings at South
Park while the bowling will be
in the afternoon at 1:30.
Anyone that still wants to
play softball can do so by com­
ing to the South Park and regis­
tering.

Seven youngcowboys andcow-
girls will be traveling to Ogden,
Utah, August 12th to represent
their State at theNationalCham-
pionship Finals.
Adrian will be represented by
Marchelle Davis who will com­
pete in two events, barrel rac­
ing and girl’s cow cutting, and
Duncan McKenzie
will see
action in calf roping.
Two top hands from Ontario
will compete in one event each:
Rob Cochran will be seen in
team roping with partner Bill
Peila of Burns, and the bull
riding event will find John Dai­
ley thrilling the crowds.
Representing Vale will be
Gayle Hawkins in goat tying.
Bill Cummings, barebackbraoc
riding, and John Hammond in
steer wrestling.
These young people will be
vying for over $25,000 in pri­
zes and scholarships when they
compete with youth from 26
States and 2 Canadian Provin­
ces in the "world’s largest
rodeo." Over 800 students are
expected
for the week-long
show. At Burns with 60 con­
testants in action, Cummings
was first. 48 bull riders and
the stock of RalphStevens made
Dailey's first in that event a
thriller.
Cochran, in his first year
in High School competition, took
top honors in the team roping.
Other placings among those who
became eligible (the top four in
each event) were: McKenzie,
third in calf roping, Hawkins,
third in goat tying, Hammond,
third in steer wrestling, and
Davis, , fourth in girl's cutting
and second in barrel racing. The
double event entry ot Davis
makes her the only one from
Malheur County with a pos­
sible All-Around standing at the
National level.

JOE ELLIS of the NBA's Golden State Warriors will be one
of the pros taking part in a summer basketball clinic scheduled
August 6 thru 10 at Treasure Valley Community College.
Other pros at the clinic will be Larry Farmer, UCLA star,
Swen Nader, also of UCLA, and former University of Oregon
star, Stan Love.
There will be a $65 tuition charged for the clinic and interested
youngsters between age 11 and 19 can contact Nyssa High School
basketball coach Gerald Talbot for further details.
