Tha Nyssa Gate City Journal, Nyssa, Orogen
It took our bus about 20 minutes
to go 3 blocks.
We were
completely surrounded by Fiats.
If you happen to live in Torino
a Fiat is a car of choice. Not
a Datsun or a Toyota but a
Fiat.
I couldn’t help but wonder
when the United States is going
to wake up to the fact that
our automobile industry is in
danger. Some day we may be
forced to drive small cars, or
perhaps I should say low cost
cars, or small low cost cars.
We can make a small car as good
as any foreign make but can we
compete in the low cost field?
We can if one of two things
happen, either our cost of pro
duction goes down or their cost
goes up.
Then of course we
must learn to buy our own
products because mass produc
tion will also cause a lowering
of price. As things now stand
the United States is taking a
terrible beating on the balance
of trade in the automotive in
dustry.
We had better start
making small cars and/or start
buying at home.
