Poge Twelve The Nyssa Gate City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon Adrian Jr. Varsity Places In Tourney NYSSA EIGHTH GRADE CHAMPIONS of the 1973 Basketball Tournament held Tues­ day and Wednesay at the Nyssa schools be­ tween Kuna, Emmett, Payette and Nyssa are pictured above. The championship final game was between Nyssa and Kuna with Nyssa 44 to 21. Nyssa’s tally for the year was 12-4 season. A Freshman and Sophomore only Invitational Basketball Tournament was held February 26 and 27 in Wilder HighSchool with eight schools involved. Those playing were Adrian, Melba, Marsing, Huntington, Notus, Greenleaf, Jordan Valley and Wilder. Adrian lost their first game to Melba 46 to 37. High point man was Jed Chamberlain with 13 points. In their second game they beat Marsing 76 to 68 with Tommy Okai 28 points, Pratt 16 and Chamberlain 12 in double figures. The Adrian team won the “Consolation" award by beat- ing Jordan Valley 55 to 32 in their third game. Playing were Pratt 28, Thiel 9, Chamber- lain 2, Okai 1. Hori 7, Sykes 6 and Orris 2. THURSDAY, MARCH 8-Job's Daughters, Masonic Hall, 7 30 p.m. WRESTLING CHAMPIONS OF THE 1973 SEVENTH Grade Basketball Tournament held last Tues­ day and Wednesday at the Nyssa schools between Kuna, Emmett, Payette and Nyssa were the Nyssa Seventh Grade basketball team. The seventh grade team had a great year with a 14-2 season. Their champion- ship game was played with Payette who incidentally was the only team Nyssa had lost to- this year. The final score was NYSSA FROSH PLACE SECOND IN TOURNEY The Freshmen Basketball Tournament hosted by Nyssa began February 22, with eight schools participating, finished up Tuesday evening, February 27. Schools competing were Meridian, Payette, Weiser, Kuna, Vallivue, Vale, Emmett and Nyssa. In the first game, Nyssa pla­ yed Kuna winning by a score of 59 to 31. In their second competition, they played Vale, again winning 53 to 46. Their final game was with Emmett in a close, hard-fought game. Emmett won by a narrow mar­ gin of 38 to 34. Thus Emmett was first place winner, Nyssa second, Vale third Meridian placed fourth. 25-21.
