Western Bank Observed

Western Bank closed 1972
with record deposits, loans and
earnings. Part of the increases
resulted from mergers with
four other banks on October
1, 1972. President A. W. Sweet
said, however, that gains would
have been substantial without
the mergers.
At year end deposits were
$118.5 million compared with
1971 restated figure of $103.0
million, a gain of 15?. Repor
ted deposits for 1971 were$64.3
million.
Earnings for 1972
were
$996,837, or $1.76 jier share.
earnings of $763,593, or $1.35
per share, an increase of 15?.
Reported earnings for 1971 were
$497,603, or $1.47 per share.
Sweet said that the board of
Western Bank has recommen
ded a stock dividend of 5?.
Stockholders will be asked to
approve
this at the annual
shareholders meeting to be held
February 24.

GYMNASTICS

Tryouts for the Gymnastic
Team was held shortly before
Thanksgiving vacation and con
tinued until near Christmas for
those wanting to work on spe
cialized pieces of equipment.
Giris tried out for the un
even parallel bars, the free
exercise and the balance beam
while the boys competed on the
high bar and the even parallel
bars. Both boys and girls tried
out for the trampoline and the
vaulting with the mini-tramp
and the Swedish vault box.
Everyone also tried out for
the general tumbling on mats,
agillty tests, and the vaulting,
which soon separated the week-
hearted individuals from the
more stout minded gyinnasts-
in-the-making.
Judges were former tumb
lers, Mrs. Saudi Smith, Nancy
Callahan, Marsha Case and the
coach, Miss Carol Shultz.
The team w ill be available for
exhibition shows, although their
schedule is rather crowded al
ready. Their first show was a
40-minute program for the
Adrian PTA January 18 m the
cafeteria.
Their programs
range from half-times at bas
ketball games to a one-hour
show given in Idaho.

and Wanda Gregg filling over
the vault box moved out from
the mini-tramp so she has to
cover 7 feet of space to land
safely from her take off point
on the little mini-tramp. Mark
Osborn will be another one to
watch as he performs on both
the high bar and the even paral
lel bars.
