County Assessor
Oregon law makes the Assessor directly responsible to
the voters. He administers the assessment program inclose
and direct cooperation with the County Court, Sheriffs
Office (Tax Collector), Clerks Office, Board of Review,
Board of Equalization and the State Department of Revenue.
Cooperation must also include the many budgeting entities
in the county who have the authority to obligate private
property to produce the money needed to operate the schools
and governmental functions of the county. Owners of this
property are equally deserving and should receive full
consideration and cooperation from the Assessor.
When properly understood and administered, the functions
of this office can be fully accountable to the public giving
you more control and better government at less cost.
It makes sense to elect an assessor long on practical
knowledge and experience and demand of him a high standard
of performance and full responsibility for his staff including
the hiring and firing of appraisers.
