PIGEON AND DOVE
Basketball and Football
Camp August 7—11
All boys in the area currently
enrolled in grades 9 through
12 are invited to register for a
basketball and football camp.
Starting August 7 through the 11
it will be held on the TVCC
campus
beginning
Monday
morning at 9:30 a.m.
Emphasis will be placed on
football and basketball funda­
mentals with special attention
being given to defensive drills,
shooting drills, quarterback
drills and line practice. Ath­
letes may participate in either
sport or elect only one sport.
Blaine Bennett, head football
coach at Ellensburg High School
and Richard Hannan, basketball
coach of the Columbia Basin
College Hawks will conduct
the camp.
Those attending may register
at TVCC. Forms must be filled
out with parents signatures and
a doctor must also verify a good
physical condition.
Engstrom in
East-West
Shrine Game
Scott Engstrom, 1972 grad­
uate of Nyssa High School will
play on the first-string line­
up of the East-West Shriner’s
football game scheduled for
August
19 at the Pendleton
Round-Up Stadium. Scott’s te-
native position is defensive end.
Training camps
for both
teams starts August 6 in La

The Oregon Game Com­
mission has adopted regulations
for the taking of band-tailed
pigeons and mourning doves
for 1972 with the season on
Housing is available for boys
who live a great distance away
in the TVCC dormotories. Two
boys to a room with individual
beds. $10.00 per person for
the session. Meals are available
on the campus at reasonable
prices.
Each athlete must provide his
own athletic clothing, athletic
trunks, t-shirt and tennis shoes
will suffice.
A $20.00 fee will be charged
for the camp and should be payed
when registering for the camp.
The players will go to Port­
land for the North-South game
August 12 in Civic Stadium.
August 13 the players will visit
the Shrine Hospital in Port­
land.
Proceeds from the game will
help finance the Portland Shrine
Hospital tor Crippled Children.
Fifty 1972 graduates from
Class AA and Class A high
schools in the state were cho­
sen for the two teams. There
are 31 alternates for the East
and 29 for the West,
The
series started in 1952. West
team leads the series 12-16;
there has been one tie. West
won last year’s game 27-14.
Coaching staffs are West,
Bob Dixon, Yamhill-Carlton,
head coach with Gerry Gibson,
Santiam, assisting. East - Tom
Vaught, Gladstone, head coach
and Lynn Harris, Pilot Rock,
assistant.
VANDALS WIN
BABE RUTH TITLE
Winners of the district Babe
Ruth Crown at Baker last week
were the Ontario Vandals.
Members of the teams from
Nyssa and Adrian were Bill
Marcum, Nyssa; TedJoyce, Ny­
ssa; Stewart Ward, Adrian and
Brendan Pratt, Adrian.
Ted Joyce batted 462 with
three runs baited in. He threw
five innings for the Vandals in
collecting his win of the tourna­
ment. He allowed one hit and
four runs during his pitching
stint, while striking out five
and walking six.
Stewart Ward was the work­
horse on the mound for the
Vandals. He threw fourteen in­
nings, giving up two runs one
of them earned. He struck out
twelve and walked eight.

limit on mourning doves is
10 per day, 20 in possession.
Regulations for the taking of
other upland game birds, water­
fowl, and furbearing animals
will be set by the Commission
following a public hearing sche­
duled August 12. At that time
full information will be avail-
able to the Commission on the
status of the bird populations.
Recommendations from the
public will also be heard and
given consideration in the de-
liberations.
The public meeting will be
held at the Commission’s Port­
land headquarters, 1634 SW
Alder, and will convene at
10 a.m. All interested persons
are invited to attend and ex­
press their views.

North-South All-Star
Shriners Football
WHOLE
The 29-man North and South
squads will gather here Sunday,
July 30 to begin two weeks of
intensive preparations for the
25th annual Shriners’ hospital
all-star football game the night
of August 12 in Portland Civic
stadium.
The game, which has netted
over $500,000 for the hospital
since its inception, features
Oregon’s
outstanding senior
high school players from last
year. South holds a 12 to 10
edge in the series, and there
have been two ties.
Marv Heater of South Salem
High will coach the South team,
assisted by Gary Mires of
Grants Pass and Dave Powell
of South Eugene.
The North
squad will be under the direc­
tion of Head Coach Don Mabee
of McMinnville, aided by Deno
Edwards of the Dalles and John
Allen of Jesuit.
Since the two squads were
selected by the rival coaches
last February, there has been
only one change, according to
Budd Burnie, the game’s mana­
ging director. Bernard Bjork,
a halfback from Astoria, has
been replaced by his first al­
ternate, Dave Scott of McMinn­
ville. Bjork is slated to enter
a U.S. military school and could
not participate.
Mail orders for tickets are
being accepted now at game
headquarters, 1119S.W. Park
Ave., Portland. Reserved seats
are $5.00 and $3.50 and orders
should be accompanied by a
check or money order.

Sport fishermen whose pre­
ference is channel catfish ang­
ling recieved a boost this week
with the arrival of 50,000
fingerlings flown in from the
Fairport National Fish Hat­
chery
at Muscadine, Iowa.
Larry Bisbee, warm-water
game fish specialist for the
Game Commission, said the
young catfish were flown to
Boise, Idaho, then trucked to
the release sites by tanker.
The little
catfish
were
stocked in Warm Springs Re­
servoir, the Owyhee River, and
the John Day River.
Good
growth is expected in these
three areas, with the fingerlings
probably growing to catchable
size by next summer.
